Mission:
Ne Me'e Laua Na Paio - Heroes & Villains
Location: Deck Nine -- Arboretum
Timeline: Backpost - In Orbit of Bre'el IV
Luuna and Sombra had finally found some time to spend together with each other and their favorite partner. They were in the local arboretum enjoying some peace and quite between shifts. Alpha had brought some toys with them, and the three of them were just relaxing enjoying their own perspective fur-coats. Even Sombra was off-duty and therefore his service vest had been cast aside for the afternoon -- even though he technically always ready to perform his services at less than a moment's notice.
Earlier in the day Alpha had planed a few games of 'sniff-n-find,' and s/he had managed to convince something called 'computer' to participate. Right now Luuna was taking a turn locating various 'lost' scents that needed to be 'rescued' from their hiding spots in return for a exuberant play with 'Ms Inkky.' Sombra meanwhile was mellowing out on his back enjoying the warmth of the 'son' on his exposed underbelly with thinner fur. He sighed, and his tail loped from side-to-side lightly.
Up ahead, Winchester was fighting what seemed like a loosing battle. Ever since he and Rex had gotten here, Rex had been trying to eat every plant in sight. At the moment, Winchester was pulling on his leash, and yelling "No", to try to keep him from eating poison oak.
The activity near-by caught Aldana's attention, and s/he asked hir companions to play together quietly for a moment while s/he went to investigate.
Approaching the male Terran, the veterinarian waved, "Hi, I couldn't help but notice, you seem to be having a bit of trouble?"
Turning his head while still pulling on the leash, h5e said, "Yes , this damn dog keeps trying to eat everything in here, I don't know why he's so riled up".
Aldana listened carefully. S/he had heard things like this before. "I'm Doctor Aldana 365, I've a way with animals. I particularly like members of the canidae family." S/he extended a hand in greeting. "May I offer some help?"
Shaking her hand, Winchester said, "Yes please". Rex, however, had a different take on things. His ears flattened against his head, he guot between Jake and the woman who had offered help. Although he did not move, he bared his teeth and began to growl and bark, as if warning her not to step any closer
Luuna instantly perked up, and started to close the distance between herself and Alpha.
~Halt!~
Luuna instantly froze.
~Stand down, love. We don't want to cause a scene. Let's see where this goes first.~
Aldana stood hir ground, s/he didn't react, and kept hir cool. S/he took a deep breath, but remained calm and assertive. S/he wanted to show s/he wasn't a threat to the man nor the canine. Amiri did not even acknowledge the dog's behavior. S/he caught sight of the man's collar, and noticed he was an officer and a junior lieutenant to boot. "I'm sorry, I didn't get your names, Lieutenant...?"
To the dog s/he 'spoke' non-verbally in his own language, and in a calm and even voice. ~Peace, brave one. You do your job well, but we -- I and my two companions here -- we mean you no harm. What do they call you, friend?~ S/he put emphasis on the word 'friend' hoping he would pick up on the idea.
Tilting his head a little, Rex said, non verbally just as the woman had. ~My name is Rex, I am a guardian to my master, and to those aboard this ship ~. ~I am not violent unless I have to be or somebody threatens him, and I am sorry for my actions ~
~Good. I understand, we are new to you. You did not know our intentions and he did not communicate well to you. Rex, your 'master' asked me to help him with you. Can you tell me why you keep -- as he puts it -- 'trying to eat everything in here', he also wonders what has you so 'riled up'? Can you tell me what's going on?~
~There was a cat through here, or at least I thought there was, and I also caught another scent, one I am most certain of, and one that disturbs me, can you tell him that?~
Aldana nodded as s/he listened. ~I certainly will, what is the other scent?~ Aldana looked to Winchester and repeated out loud word-for-word what Rex said and then added. "He has not told me yet what the other scent was, do you have any idea what it might be? I'm not sure if he likes it, or if it makes him nervous."
Smiling a bit Winchester said, " he has always, always loved to chase cats". "He has never hurt one, he just likes the chase". Pausing for a moment and thinking, Jake added, " No, I dont, but if it's doing that sort of stuff to him it could me rather serious".
Meanwhile Sombra ventured closer, he was curious, and he approached with a friendly curious demeanor. His head was low in a non-threatening position. He craned his head forward sniffing trying to get the other dog's scent.
Luuna stayed put, right where Alpha told her, though she was a little curious about the stranger, and she tried to scent the air from where she was too. She wanted to put herself between the other an Alpha.
~The scent I caught~, Rex sent through his thoughts while he was still sniffing, ~That scent smelled like Trilithium, I trust you know what that is?~
~I believe so, yes.~ Aldana looked at Winchester, "Any idea what Trilithium might be doing here in the arboretum?"
"Trilithium", Jake said, is a easy byproduct that can be used to manufacture powerful explosives".
"Rex here has detected it, and apparently been trying to alert you to its presence, but again, I wonder why are there traces of it in here?"
Scrunching his face, he thought for a moment and spoke. " Two possibilities", Winchester said. " Either somebody who works with it regularly accidentally had traces of it on them, or somebody who was up to no good was through here".
Aldana turned to look at the man, "I'm sorry, I missed your name, what is it again?"
Extending his hand, Winchester said, "Lieutenant JG Jake Winchester, Chief of Tactical and Security."
Aldana thought it best not to hug the large man even though it was the standard greeting for hir people instead of a handshake. S/he took his hand and shook with a firm grip, looking the male in the eye as expected by his people. "Doctor Amiri Aldana 365."
~Rex, would you like to meet my friends?~
Wearily, Rex said, ~Yes, I would like that.~
~We'll go one at a time. Okay?~ Aldana gestured for Sombra to join hir. Slowly Sombra came over, head low, but tail wagging lightly. ~This is Sombra, he willingly helps me cope with life and my disability. He is my roommate.~
Aldana pat Sombra on the shoulders, and began gently kneading them. ~This is Rex.~
Sombra began to scent Rex while allowing the other male easy access to areas for him to check his scent as well if he wished.
Rex began to sniff Sombra, memorizing the others scent and taking in its intents. Rex had learned though his training that you could tell many things by how something smelled. And Sombre smelled loyal, fierce, dedicated, and utterly decorated to both her duty and handler, but at the same time could show no mercy to those who threatened either. Raising his head to look to who had spoken, Rex said, ~This one is kind and loyal but has the heart of a warrior~ Tilting his head, he asked, ~Forgive me, but I did not catch your name~
~I'm Doctor Aldana 365, I'm the Assistant Chief Science Officer. Would you like to meet my other companion?~
At the sound of her name Luuna, meanwhile stood, her tail wagging, she wanted to be included, but she knew better than to interfere with an introduction. She kept her distance and waited patiently to be called over to meet the stranger.
Looking from his Master to the woman and back several times, Rex looked at Aldana, tilted his head slightly and said, ~Yes, I would like to meet your other companion if it's OK with you and her~
Aldana looked over at Luuna who squirmed in her spot, and with kind gentle eyes, he looked back at Rex, ~I'd say so.~ S/he looked back over at Luuna and invited her over to meet Rex.
Luuna approached slowly, but boldly. She after all was the true guardian of their little pack. She boldly reached out to sniff Rex, holding her tail level for him to meet her.
~Rex, this is Luuna.~
