Mission:
He ho'omaka hou 'ana - A New Beginning
Location: Bre'el IV Capital City
Timeline: 28 Dec 2388
Ahressa was keen to open up her tricorder, which was by now steadily bleeping with signals of messages arrived and scans finished. Nimh wasn't sure but there seemed to be indications of two messages that had arrived, instead of just one that was expected, with a possible location of the mysterious transmission.
So, once they were a safe distance away, she reached into her strap and extracted her tricorder. There were indeed two messages, one from the Hawaii communications hub in the CiC and one from her 'brother' Arawn.
It was a coded communication, she knew, from her handler, Commander Khalfani, and was marked as eyes only. Which meant, something important had come up and she needed to look at it ASAP. Ahressa casually slid the message from her 'brother' to the side, to be read later, or in her case when she could look at it without being watched.
The second message was one she could look at now and share with her team. "Lieutenant," she called to Marian, "I believe I have a location for us."
"That's good news." Darren moved over nearer to their OPS officer. "Show me what you've got."
"From what we can tell, the origin resolves to a low-mid rise section here in the Capital." Ahressa said, bringing up a map on her tricorder, "communications places it roughly in the red circle indicated on our maps, they will have been updated by now."
Darren pulled out his own tricorder and checked the map. His brow furrowed. "Looks like its in a fairly populated area."
"It looks to be the commercial, or a commercial district. Building is two stories high and has several antennae at the very least." Ahressa read out the rest of the message, "looks like a radio-communications type station or tower. Probably someone with some clout and money to maintain a setup like this." The bajoran finished finally.
Darren thought for a moment. "Well, the fact that it's in not in a suburban area or countryside is a bit less than I had hoped for. That's going to make it difficult for us to not be noticed coming in. I guess situation being as it is best thing for us to do is park the shuttle a little ways away and move in as inconspicuously as possible. Maybe set up some recon in this building if we can. Get a better look at what we're dealing with. Of course," he said, addressing the group at large, "I'm always open to suggestions."
Ahressa had ideas, of course. The other Ahressa that is. This Ahressa was just an Operations officer. She could only be 'so' opinionated before it got suspicious.
So, she looked over at the person who was an expert in these matters. Tyler Fallon.
Meanwhile Fallon's own tricorder beeped with a message received.
From: Danz, Lieutenant JG Jula
To: Fallon, Lieutenant Tyler
Negotiations proceeding. Actual informed Bre'ella of received communique and second team's purpose. Bre'ella surprised (am uncertain as to the cause of surprise).
Re: communique - Bre'ella claim no dissent since USS Enterprise operation on Bre'el. First dissent seems recorded 5 or so years ago.
Will keep you updated.
Message ends
Fallon shook his head as he read the message. Curiouser and curiouser. "Looks like the local government didn't know about the message we received. Captain also told them what our group is up to. As far as doing a recon of the building, if it is the local news studio, we could always just ask for a tour of the facility. We are supposed to be sightseeing after all."
"Sounds like a plan. Let's get moving." Darren slipped on a coat. He felt the pocket sized phaser he'd made sure to pack in the inside pocket; his "just in case" measure.
Ahressa led the group to the location the CIC indicated. It was in the commercial district alright, yet it definitely wasn't a house.
"If we get in here, Kosu, how much time do you need to extrapolate settings off the antennae?" Ahressa asked the young engineer.
Looking at her side towards the woman as she smirks a bit "Depends on the design, I bet a few minutes to tweak the coding codex and getting pass the internal systems. Soo 3 minutes tops?" Deeli replied.
"I'm going to need at least 10 minutes to crack whatever security and pull the comm data, provided my estimates of their security level are correct," Ahressa informed the group. "I think Lieutenant Fallon's tour suggestion is the best idea."
Ahressa knew she could crack the security faster, yet did not want to risk suspicion by flaunting her skills.
"Ten's not bad, but faster is better. You'll have to 'get lost' while we're on the tour in order to get it done. We'll try to keep our guide distracted long enough that they don't notice you've disappeared right away. Then it'll take a few minutes to back track and find you. It's gonna be close." Fallon replied.
"It's our only shot though," Ahressa admitted.
As if on cue, a Bre'ella approached the group of Starfleet officers, "You seem lost, may I help you?"
"Hi there, Lieutenant Darren Marian, Starfleet. We've been sent to check out your local telecommunications systems while our commander is in negotiations with the leaders of your government. Could help us organize a tour of this facility, or help us get in touch with someone who can?" Darren said this all with the confidence of truth, though it was more than half a lie.
"Most certainly," the bystander said as he went inside and gestured for the group to follow.
Inside, there was a lobby with a desk and the bystander talked with the clerk.
"I hear you would like a tour of the facility," the clerk said, bowing.
"Yes, please," Darren said, returning a slight bow of his own.
"Please, follow me; however, do stick together," the guide mentioned as the group headed up the stairs. "The second floor is mostly offices while our broadcasting facilities are located on the top floor."
As the group started walking along the second floor and passing offices, Ahressa saw her chance. She tapped Kosu to follow her as they slipped into an office.
Feeling a shiffer over her spine as Deeli looked annoyed at the woman "What..." She whispers and then noticed the intend of her and nodded.
"Hopefully this terminal is on their network," Ahressa said as she started tapping away on the keyboard.
Rolling her eyes as she push gently Nimh aside "Let the pro do this..." She kneels and grabs a tool from her side pocket and started to remove the console as she tapped a few buttons.
Meanwhile, Second Floor Corridor
After a few moments, the guide glanced back and stopped.
"Wait a minute, where did the females go?" the guide asked suspiciously.
"Probably the restroom," Darren replied, thinking quickly. Sharp, this one. "You know, females like to go together. They'll catch up with us soon I'm sure. Please, continue the tour."
The Bre'ella paused as if to ponder Darren's statement.
"You humans do frequent the 'bathroom' a lot, it seems. It is a wonder how you spend so much time there when you are not always taking a bath," the clerk remarked as he led the group to the third floor.
On this floor, there were several studio sets in large offices with cameras in each suite.
One of the suites was a news setup and was depicting video of the Starport where a human with hair in a matted braid and a woman were pointing phasers at each other.
"Starfleet officers?" Fallon said aloud, taking note of what he saw. "Looks like I'll have some work to do when we get back to the Hawaii." He turned to the Bre'ella conducting the tour. "Pardon my interruption. I'm Lieutenant Fallon, the Chief of Security for the Hawaii. Forgive my asking, but would it be possible to get a copy of your footage pertaining to that incident?" He nodded to the screen.
"I am surprised you don't already know about such an incident. It is such a travesty coming from the great Starfleet. Can you assure us they will be punished? I cannot make the release determination, yet if I can convince the senior authority to do so, you will get such a tape," the clerk explained.
"The tape will certainly go a long way in aiding my investigation of the matter. If required, I can promise there will be a suitable punishment for those involved in the event." Fallon promised. "Video can be more reliable than an eyewitness."
"In the interest of truth, I will do my best to convince my superior to release a copy," the guide bowed. "Will there be anything else you require?"
Vacant Office, Second Floor
"This is so old fashion hardware," Deeli mutters and stops for a second only to realize that she touched Nimh and shook it off as she continued.
Ahressa was keenly observing the engineer. Maybe she'd pick up some tips. It appears Deeli bypassed several passcode protocols on the terminal itself and directly connected to the network. Smart. Ahressa stepped back as Deeli brushed up against her.
In no time, Deeli popped up and said done.
"That's it?" Ahressa asked.
Deeli explained how everything was downloaded to the tricorder for upload and analysis aboard the USS Hawaii.
Ahressa motioned to leave as the two entered the hall and rejoined the group.
The guide recognized the females joining them, "We appreciate you stopping by. If you wait in the lobby, I can let you know the status of the disk you requested."
What disk? Ahressa pondered. She looked to Fallon who seemed unconcerned.
As the group moved back to the lobby, Fallon updated the group. The clerk was able to secure the disk and the ragtag group of officers started the walk to rejoin the rest at the Capitol Building with their shuttle.
