After Dran's transfer Halona had helped the engineering team in the restoration, and decoration of the Diplomatic department offices. The treaties had mostly been Dran's thing but Halona being a translation specialist she figured it couldn't hurt to go over the old stuff. As she was checking the back logs of the recent treaties she noticed that some of the terms had been incorrectly dictated between parties. With a gulp she tapped her combadge calling the two folks she figured needed to know ASAP, =/\= Grayson to Captain Tachibana and Commander Zamora can you both please come down to the Diplomacy offfices, there's been some serious mistakes written into some of the treaties that where witnessed for the Hawaii.=/\=
=/\= "Zamora here, are you referring to the supply agreement with Bre'el IV?" =/\= Juan responded, somewhat alarmed, to the suggestion immediately.
=/\= Copy, on the way =/\= Akio said.
=/\=Yes Sir, I can't explain it fully over the comms.=/\= Halona replied to Zamora's query.
=/\= "I will be there momentarily as well," =/\= Juan informed, thankfully the diplomatic offices were nearby. He might even beat the captain getting there.
Akio arrived and saw the Commander with the Yeoman.
He observed a piece of paper with the proper names.
Koper
Juan Zamora,
Radun Dran,
Hon. Magnus Temple
Secretary of the Exterior
United Federation of Planets
Lesai Tolkath
Director
Federation Diplomatic Mission to Bre'el IV
The first list was the names that were supposed to be attached to the treaty between Bre'el IV, and the Federation that the Hawaii had key position in helping secure, the second list were the names actually upon the transcript and copy within the Diplomatic department.
What was actually on the agreement though was an abhorrence.
Kapera
Jan Zamor
Rudran Dron
Hon. Marcus Timple
Secretary of the Exterior
United Federation of Planets
While the Director's name was not listed in error nor anything else but what really bothered Halona was the fact she couldn't find the transcription officers credentials; anywhere on the documents. She worried the inside of her bottom lip with her teeth, as she waited for the Captain and Zamora to finish reading the offending document. She had heard the talk, that during the treaty process, a small separatist group had been attempting to ruin the talks and had used various means to make the Federation look poorly in the eyes of the public, embellishing on a fight that had occurred between officers of the Hawaii in the port and other things. If some of those folks managed to get into the government gaining power and saw the errors on the treaty transcripts they could use it to sue for misrepresentation and numerous other things.
"Well, I think this explains why we do not have the translator's credentials. How does the rest of the agreement look?" Akio asked. Signatures were one thing, yet if even the terms were messed up, then it was almost worse than having no agreement.
"We had our diplomatic department, a full mission, and a diplomatic corps vessel on hand when we were negotiating this. I'm shocked no one aboard the Detente managed to catch this." Juan stated.
Halona shook her head, "I don't know I just pulled it up, I can only guess how this happened but I have a few ideas on how we can repair the damage." she said evenly, as she regarded both men, waiting for permission to voice the possible solutions.
"Go ahead, Yeoman, we are all ears," Akio said, also agreeing with Zamora.
"Well first we need to find out if the Detente has the same copy or if theirs is in proper order, if it is correct we simply ask for a fresh copy for our records. If it's not then we will need to well for lack of a better option go back to Bre'el and check out the treaty withh them." Halona said evenly as she glanced from one to the other and gestured helplessly at the offending document.
"That's a sound course of action, at least to begin with," Juan began. "With a bit of luck, the Detente has a correct text on hand. If not, there is simply no way we would be able to return to Bre'el in the near future though. The Hawaii is too deeply entangled with operations in the Canterra sector, I'm afraid the best we will be able to do is liaise with Director Tolkath via subspace, as the mission on Bre'el attempts to get to the bottom of this issue."
"My thoughts exactly," Akio nodded. "Commander Tolkath may be a helpful bridge in this regard. A bit unconventional, Yeoman, yet I think these may be unique circumstances."
Halona nodded, "Okay where do you want me to start or did one of you want to contact the Detente with the matter?" She didn't want to make any assumptions since well it wasn't what she was supposed to be doing, she was usually fulfilling Yeoman duties and translation. It was just recently that, she had been sent to CIC during the battle, she had done her best, she still wasn't certain if she had been as much of help but she was willing to learn to get better if she was needed there again in the future. This though was a bit out of her detailed allowed duties. If she had been working with her father she would have gone ahead and started making contact with everyone involved to try and fix it quickly but she had freedom and equal risk of if she was wrong she had only herself to blame.
"Given that we want to keep this situation under wraps," Juan mused, "I think it would be best if you handled the initial contact. We could make it look like a fairly routine clerical communication, I am concerned that a more urgent, high-level message might draw prying eyes toward our issue."
"Good perspective, Commander," Akio nodded. He was all too familiar with innocuous questions from Admirals carrying the utmost priority just because of the rank. "If anyone gives you any trouble, Yeoman, feel free to call on our former diplomat. I am certain he can tackle any unforeseen obstacles."
"You are too kind sir," Juan demurred. "Though, you should of course feel free to come to me for guidance on this matter," he said to Grayson.
Halona nodded as she listened to both their input and instructions. "Alright I will get on it thank you both for your help." She was glad she had called them down over the matter and now knew which direction to take to hopefully solve the whole mess.
