Oolong tea and crescents

Mission:
Ne Me'e Laua Na Paio - Heroes & Villains
Location: Captain's Ready Room - Deck 1
Timeline: 14 Jan 2389 (After "Translation of Duty: Who are you?")
ON:
Halona rang the chime and waited for the invitation to go in. She had the confirmation for the video conference with Admiral Banda for the Captain along with the request for crew transfers and repair schedule updates as well as a note from engineering that someone would be arriving with in the hour to fix the bugging replicator for him. She was holding a tray of oolong tea, plate of crescent sandwiches and the PaDD's stacked on it evenly.
Akio hit the door's button, forgoing the verbal command. He was hovering by the window looking out, taking a break from his usual work.
"Ah, good timing," Akio said as he took a tea and turned back to the window. "Thank you, Yeoman."
Halona smiled softly, "I have your confirmation for the video conference with Admiral Banda, 0900 on the 15th. Someone from engineering will be here within the hour to recalibrate and repair the replicator for you. The crew transfer requests and an updated repair schedule are ready for your approval." She said quietly as she set down the tray with the PaDD's and plate of crescent sandwiches. She stood back and waited watching his profile as he looked out the viewport.
Akio looked up and paused before he realized he had stopped and grabbed a tea. This Yeoman knew her stuff. He took a sip.
"Where is it you were posted before?" Akio asked as he reviewed the PADDs. She had just arrived that day and he did not have a chance to read her personnel file.
Halona smiled softly, "I learned most of this from working with family on diplomatic operations, I was an unofficial aide for years and decided since I enjoyed the work to make that my career. The Hawaii is my first official posting. Sir." Her parents hadn't wanted her to enlist at all but after enough time and solid debates she had gotten her parents to relent give their okay. She hadn't expected much from her first posting but so far she was very happy and feeling very lucky indeed.
Akio was still looking at the PADDs, listening to the Yeoman. He put the one in his hands down and looked up, picking up his tea, studying the traditional glass that the Yeoman had taken the time to request.
"You know, in history, jobs used to be on an apprentice basis, so the children largely inherited the family business," Akio took a sip and looked back up to Halona. "Your family trained you well. Why did you join Starfleet then?"
Halona smiled brightly, "The old cliche to meet more people and see who or what's out there. I enjoy being around people and making them happy even if it is just little things like preferred tea or snack while working." She said honestly besides why lie when truth was just easier.
"A true explorer. It is a shame we are headed to war. I am afraid you may see more blood than stars," Akio said grimly as he took another sip of tea.
Halona nodded quietly, "A risk anywhere really when you think about it." She had seen a few bloody encounters during her time as one of her father's aides. It hadn't been pretty but at least her father's security detail had kept him from getting too hurt. Her mother had not been too happy but at least Halona had done the smart thing by ducking under the table to not be an extra easy target. The kicking a chair out into the folks fighting might not have been that smart thing but it felt it right.
"You have seen war?" Akio asked as he scrolled through another PADD. Akio was curious about the Yeoman. Yeoman interacted closely with the command team, so it was important to learn about them and create a good working relationship.
Halona shook her head softly, "Few fights broke out during two different meetings my Father and mother were working on. I didn't see all that much I ducked under the table and kicked a few chairs out." she said quietly, her cheeks flushing pink.
Akio chuckled at the innocent response, a reaction that was rare for him. He had not laughed in quite some time. "Thank you Yeoman. I do not mean to laugh, yet war will be different from a fight in a meeting."
"I understand that, I will try to be careful during any fighting, Sir." her face was nearly crimson with her embarrassment but she wasn't done with her job yet, she would wait for his dismissal. After that she would see what she was going to go try some cooking.
Akio felt somewhat guilty at laughing at the Yeoman's story. He returned to the PADDs.
"That will be all, Greyson," Akio replied without looking back at her.
