ON:
Akio entered Sickbay, figuring it was enough time for the medical team to recover from combat. Upon entry, he was impressed by how quiet and seemingly smooth everything seemed to be operating.
"Excuse me, is Doctor Aldana around?" Akio asked a nurse.
"Doctor who?" the nurse asked.
Across the sickbay the XO lay on a biobed, across his chest lay Sombra, keeping post. He hadn't moved or barely blinked since he beamed in.
Akio saw Marian lying on the biobed. "Is that safe for him?" Akio wondered aloud.
The nurse looked over in the direction the captain was looking. "What the biobed? Yes sir, I assure you it's well anchored. No being the relative size and mass of a humanoid is going to cause that thing to collapse." The nurse commented clueless to the CO's actual concern.
Akio nodded. He wasn't a medical professional and trusted their judgment here. "What's the prognosis of Commander Marian?"
"There was a large shaggy individual who came in wearing a medical/science uniform, perhaps that's who you're looking for? I'll go see if I can find them." The nurse left in search of the person he described.
Akio was getting angry about the disarray of the medical staff. They had two wounded and the attending nurse didn't know who the attending doctor was?
Aldana came out from the surgical bay, s/he had been working to try and save Mr. Hunter. S/he went over to the captain. "I'm sorry sir, Doctor Sthilg left at an most inconvenient time. Sickbay was quite busy when I beamed in here. Everyone's been pulled ten different directions, I hadn't had time to introduce myself to everyone here yet. I've been working with Nurse Song when the other nurse came and got me. Thank you for your understanding during this crisis."
"I see," Akio said, almost guilty at his previous thoughts, all things considered. "What is the prognosis of Commander Marian?" Akio repeated.
Nurse Pond put on an aire of confidence as he approached the animal guarding the XO. He retrieved the chart for the Shaggy doctor.
Aldana smiled and accepted the chart, "thank you Nurse..."
"Pond, Rory Pond."
"Doctor Aldana, sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier." Aldana looked the chart over. "Well captain, it seems he's stable. He should be conscious. I'm sorry, Mr. Hunter's injuries were much more severe we had to tend to him first." S/he looked at Sombra who cocked his head as if listening and hopped down finding an out-of-the-way place to be.
"Quite alright, we appreciate you stepping in during these circumstances. So both will be able to return to duty?" Akio was hopeful in the recovery.
Aldana sighed heavily. "I'm afraid not sir. Commander Marian is physically okay, but he just won't wake up. It's almost as if no one's at the controls."
Akio sighed and looked at the ground. It was an unfortunate circumstance.
Sombra picked up on something from Alpha's prime-alpha and came over to nuzzle his hand.
"What about Lieutenant Hunter?" Akio asked, looking back up while absent-mindedly petting Sombra.
Aldana looked down at Sombra, then back up at the fit captain. "I'm sorry to say captain. He should be able to resume consciousness, but his injuries are too extensive, he MAY not fully recover."
"Very well. Thank you for your diligence, Lieutenant. Considering Dr. Sthilg is missing, we seem to require a CMO at this point. Do you have any issue continuing to serve here?"
Aldana hesitated. "Well, for the time being, but what of my duties to Mr. Tolkath and his department?"
"We need a Chief Medical Officer more than an Assistant Chief Science Officer. I am sure Commander Tolkath will make do," Akio answered.
"Thank you sir, is this a temporary assignment sir?"
"Consider it permanent for now. Knowing Starfleet, it will be some time before we get more doctors aboard," Akio replied in an apologetic tone. "You'll probably be short staffed for some time."
"Thank you captain. I understand. I will strive to do the best I can with what and who I have."
