Mission:
Ohuna - The Secret
Location: Deck 18, Science Lab 1
Timeline: Post Rescue (Couple of Weeks/Days)
Orson wearing a set of dark-tinted goggles, an apron, rubber gloves and his uniform was conducting a test on a new carnivorous plant that had been put on hold by this predecessor due to his unexpected departure. The plant with no name (due to him not having the creative mindset to come up with one, a job which was usually given to his students) was behind a piece of perspex glass and apparently exploded to certain lights the plant grows and changes color, right now it was no bigger than a foot in height and a few centimeters in diameter the head larger and looked almost too cumbersome for its stalk.
Holding a rather large bit of magnesium he eased the bunsen burner to the bottom just as the doors to the lab opened, which meant two things happened. Orson distracted turned and dropped the strip and shouted "Cover your eyes!" as the strip fell to the floor and ignited the light so bright even with his goggles he had to look away.
Halona had intended to bring in the morning reports and his previously requested iced coffee with Carmel, she had gone for a dark Columbian blend of coffee today. At the sound of Lieutenant Beckett's shout t cover her eyes she really couldn't with her hands full of the tray holding the coffee and stack of PaDD's. So she shut her eyes and ducked her head down, standing still were she had entered the room....
As the magnesium strip burnt it took a good twenty seconds before the room was back to its normal luminosity "Oh boy" He said looking at the now 7ft tall version of the plant he had been studying its large jawlike head bouncing off the perspex glass as it tried to snap at him. "Are you ok?" He asked turning to the Yeoman who had done a fantastic job at holding onto the things in her hand.
Halona blinked several times looking past him to the extremely large vicious looking plant then she focused on him her eyes wide with surprise, "Yes I am okay, what did I make you drop? Is your work going to be okay?" She would have to definitely make sure she didn't make a mistake like this again. Halona looked at the tray of coffee and PaDD's and offered it to him with a grimace of embarrassment. "I brought your reports and iced caramel coffee. Sorry if I didn't time it well."
"Oh no bother really. It was just a strip of Magnesium, when it burns it generates a highly intense light and I was seeing how it would affect this here plant." He tapped the glass and in response, it snapped at his hand from the other side of the glass, Orson withdrew his hand with a chuckle. "It's fine, it's just hungry" He smiled taking the coffee which was cold just the way he liked it and the PaDDs. "Anything interesting for me to read?" He had walked to his desk and placed everything down onto the floor his goggles still on top of his head.
Halona eyed him a moment and spoke softly, "It's mostly reports from your department along with a few schedule change requests, beyond that there's a briefing in two days to talk about upgrades to the defense that you might want to attend for information if nothing else."
"Thankyou." He said quickly shuffling through them one by one and placed them in neat stacks ranging from 'important' to 'Should be thrown out the airlock' which included the one about defenses. The science chief had no interest really in weapons and tactical features of the ship but he might attend it one the less even it was just for the free biscuits and coffee. "And how are you doing this morning Yeoman? I hope you made yourself one of these" Orson picked up his coffee and drank it a sigh of delight escaping his lips. "Reminds me of home."
Halona smiled, and nodded, "Andorian hot chocolate and vanilla bean whipped cream for myself, I am quite well Thank you for asking. I was able to learn how to make a three foot paper dragon without tearing the paper, from my holo-deck class."
"Very impressive, though I'm now a little upset that I don't have a thee foot paper dragon in the corner of my office," He said winking over the top of his drink as he sipped it further. "So Miss Grayson, what made you want to become a an executive Department Lead?"
Halona shrugged softly, "Translation doesn't always have work to do so it gives me something to do to feel useful. I am not good at medical stuff or repairs words and people are where I am at my best besides cooking."
"I can appreciate that, though you left science out of that though unless yiu have a hidden Intrest I hould know" He asked curiously, Orsons academic mindset racing at rhe possibility that Grayson would consider taking on a science background even if just as a hobby.
Halona blinked at him, "Never really thought about it to be honest, I spent so much time in linguistics and translation didn't think to check other things."
"Well," Orson started standing up and moved sround the room to remove his apron, goggles and gloves. "If you ever feel the notion to mix some highly volatile chemicals, study plants or the human body hit me up! Theres a bits of everything in science for everyone" He explained with a smile leaning against the desk.
Halona nodded, "I will keep that in mind, Thank you, if you want me to come back later to pick up reports or anything let me know." She said lightly as she stood up she offered a smile and then, she headed for the doorway. The plant was still smacking against the enclosure it was behind. Halona really hoped it wouldn't end up a ruined experiment by her accidental interruption.
Orson waved though it was to the back of the young woman before turning his attention to his new friend, "Right you. What shall we call you?"
