Msn.) & Lieutenant Zim Salmon, Ph.D. (Dec-Jan 2389-TRNS, Bre'el Dip. Msn)
Mission:
He ho'omaka hou 'ana - A New Beginning
Location: Bridge - Deck 1
Timeline: 25 Dec 2388
ON:
Akio entered the bridge as an officer announced "Captain on the Bridge!"
"I have the bridge," Akio stated to Darren.
"Sir," Darren said, moving to his seat on the right.
"How are departure preparations?" Akio asked Darren as he switched seats.
Darren pulled up readiness status on his console. "Green lights from all reporting departments, Commander. We can depart at your leisure."
"Very well. OPS, do we have clearance from Providence Fleet Yards for departure?" Akio asked Ahressa.
"Yes, sir. We have priority departure clearance. PFY have approved the flight plan." Ahressa tapped on her console. "Departure coordinates have been forwarded to CONN." She added nodding at Ren.
"Send our thanks for a fine vessel and their hospitality. CONN, take us out, one quarter impulse," Akio ordered.
Ren nodded as his hands danced of his console, inputting the commands to start leaving space dock. “Detaching umbilical supports. Firing thrusters.” Ren reported. The Sovereign Class vessel slowly began to inch forward under her own power. A sense of pride washed over the Bajoran as he ensured Starfleet’s newest addition to fleet slowly left space dock. Ren watched the sensor readout as the nacelles cleared dry dock. “We are clear of Providence Fleet Yards. Setting course for the outer marker and engaging one quarter impulse.”
"Providence Fleet Yards, this is USS Hawaii, we are clear of the outer edge of the station." Ahressa opened a channel to the Yards' Dockmaster, "proceeding on exit coordinates. Thank you for your service, gentlemen."
USS Hawaii, PFY Dockmaster, your way is clear, no incoming traffic at your current course. Smooth sails! Providence Fleet Yards out.
Akio watched on the view screen as the ship cleared dry dock and maneuvered away into the stars. He was commanding the latest Starfleet vessel. He almost could not believe this was happening. He looked over at a smiling XO before turning back to the CONN.
"CONN, lay in a course for Bre'el IV, warp 8," Akio instructed.
“Course programmed in, sir.” Ren reported as he finished inputting their final destination.
"Engage," Akio ordered. "OPS, ETA to Bre'el IV?" Akio inquired.
"Approximately 3.5 days, sir." Ahressa replied. Hopefully enough time for us to get a bit more clued in.
"Captain, a reminder that the Scout Ship USS Balboa is scheduled to cross our path at extreme sensor range in two hours" Dr. Salmon piped up from the Science station. "She's been ordered to ghost us to test the sensors and aid in any last-minute calibration. Essentially a game of warp-speed hide and seek. The Balboa was chosen due to her small signature, extensive sensor arrays and experience in not being found if she didn't wish to be" the wordy Quim explained. "Barring problems with our systems, we should not have to deviate course significantly or slow our speed."
"Thank you, Doctor. Operations, I'm sure you already knew of the test," Akio stated.
"Yes, sir. Standard sonar ping detection." Ahressa replied, remembering how much she enjoyed that particular exercise.
He was impressed. The Quim had not been posted on a ship before and he seemed comfortable on the bridge as the ship ramped up to warp 8.
"1MC," Akio said to trigger the public address system on the ship. "This is the Captain. Thank you all for putting together your departments so we can launch this vessel into war. It was one of the most truncated launch timelines in the history of Starfleet.
"As we embark to Bre'el IV, it will be important to learn to work together as a functioning crew because we may very well be thrown into combat on the Gorn front. For all intents and purposes, ladies and gentlemen, our voyage to Bre'el is our shakedown cruise. If you need anything, do not hesitate to elevate your requirements to your division officer, department head, or even to the XO or me. That is all."
