It was an early start for all, they had just ten hours to get the pesudo-implants replicated and attached.
Tolkath had several of the silvery Gorn implant devices laid out on a table. “These were removed from survivors of the Wyoming.” He explained. “These larger ones may be suitable for use”
He pointed to some at the end of the table, one was about the size of a shoe box and was previous fitted to the victim’s back; another was round, almost like a yoke and went over the head, resting on the chest and shoulders; a third was a long cylinder which went along the victim’s spine.
Despite the differing shapes they all had several wires, electrodes and tubes which were inserted into the victim’s body tissues and places for screws which affixed the device into the person’s bone. There were also a couple of small panels on each one, to access the internal electronics.
“I believe you could fabricate something similar to these and there would be room to hide a Mark One phaser and communicator inside” He said. “I have produced four commbadges, reduced to their basic components. “
He held up four slim bars, about two inches long, half an inch wide and a quarter inch thick. There was a single tiny button and a small speaker-microphone on one side.” They have only a single channel, but it is set on one that will not be blocked by the Gorn’s jamming.” He handed them to Taltos
“Then, it is only a matter of finding a way of attaching these to your bodies. Ideally they should appear to be functional although, we are still not entirely sure on how they work.”Tolkath concluded.
Emma had spent a little time researching the implants, "The material itself shouldn't be hard to replicate or at least find a suitable covering that could at least fool them. I'm confident we can find a way to rewire it in a way that it looks active but nothing would happen if they would try to use it."
Iria regarded the implants and the stripped down com-badges, she wasn't looking forward to it but she gave her word and besides she liked a challenge this was going to be a doozy. "The replicator has the easy job, the fun part is up to us."
T'Lara looked at the implants on display. "I think the material that touches the skin should not be of an allergenic alloy. It could irritate the skin. I can alter the skin around the replacement implants. It will be painless to attach the implants then." She explained.
Emma looked towards Commander Tolkath, "Sir, do know any of material off the top of your head that could pass for the outer shell of the implant? Something that would be easier for Lieutenant T'Lara to work around when attaching them?"
Tolkath ran tricorder over one of the implants and consulted the results. "There is an unusual mix of alloys but I believe if we used aluminum for the body of the device then plated with with a chromium nickle compound that would be an acceptable facsimile"
Iria looked at readouts from Tolkath's tricorder, "Is that Selenium, copper, molybdenum, and colbalt? Doesn't the human body have various trace amounts of those elements?" She knew there was more but she hadn't taken xenobiology refresher course in years. Didn't plan on it either if she could help it.
"That is correct, most Humanoids and other species all require certain amounts of metals in order to function, zinc and magnesium for instance. Some heavier elements are not healthy though. " He agreed. "Well I suggest we complete our tasks, I understand you twp need to be ready by sixteen hundred hours."
"You are correct Commander so we shouldn't waste too much time, get what we need, put the stuff together, and then have the Doctor stick them in us." Emma remarked.
"Sixteen hundred hours?" T'Lara exclaimed. "That would not give me much time to get the implants on. This will be cutting it short, sir. I need at least one hour per person to get the implants on, I do not know when you can get them ready."
"Barring any surprises should be done by 09:45 or sooner!" Iria retorted after a long moment of thought and gave her best estimate (as per engineering rule of thumb adding an additional fifteen minutes leeway).
"Very well." Tolkath agreed, "Let us schedule a meeting in Sickbay at Noon. That will allow enough time for both replication and affixing if the implants. We have our tasks, let's us commence."
