Mission:
Hahai i na pilikua nui - Hunting Monsters
Location: Mess Hall
Timeline: After Comm Tower
-Lounge-
Bernard, the black and white man, sat at an empty table in the mess hall. He was looking at his padd thinking There is almost no crime on this ship, why did I get assigned to security? He shrugged at himself, then almost spit his coffee as the blue dress woman from the party came into the mess hall and was looking at him. He dropped his padd to the table instead.
Halona hesitated as she walked through the lounge doorway she saw one of the new folks whom had asked her a question during the party, but she'd been distracted; and she was afraid she might have accidentally been rude to him. She mustered up a small smile as she neared his table, "Do you mind if I sit down here?" She was still in her uniform but her hair was in a messy bun, meaning she wasn't on duty right then but not ready to really relax.
"Please do," He said, "What can I do for you? May I get you anything?"
Halona sat down and meet his gaze, "Thank you," she paused for a second and shook her head lightly, "I don't need anything but to offer you an apology. I was distracted during the party when you spoke to me. I don't normally ignore questions when asked. So I wanted to offer my apologies."
Bernard smiled, "I'm pleasantly surprised that you took the time to do that. Apology accepted. I was trying to offer you a drink because it was a party and you looked lovely. Tell me something about yourself, please."
Halona blinked in surprise a moment before she gave a small smile, "Oh thank you! I don't get to dress up often so figured I'd enjoy it while I could." She paused and shrugged softly, "Not much to tell really I am the translation specialist, I have yeoman duties and sometimes during battle I'll be directing comm traffic, giving head's up sort of thing." She added quietly in embarrassment, she couldn't mention much without giving information that wasn't hers. Halona certainly wasn't going to just blurt out she had an Ambassador for a Father.
"Translation Specialist. Wow. Do you speak Gorn then?" He found that he was pleasantly nervous. He was grinning. He wanted to blurt out to her that he was a Starfleet science project, blown to bits during the Dominion war and put back together only to be insulted and shut away in an insane asylum. Shhh he thought, Wait until the second date. He really wanted to get her something. He breathed, trying to calm himself.
Halona nodded softly, "I can read it better than I can speak it and I have been working on expending my knowledge to better help since it appears we're going to be dealing with Gorn for a while." She paused a moment noticing that he apparently was nervous about something, "Am I taking to much of your time? I only meant to apologise after all."
"Gott no," he said, "I'm--I've been pouring over these files for hours. Hours and hours everyday. I've got time. I'm--" he decided to be honest "--Halona, I am new here and I have not made very many friends. I'm very pleased you came by and took sometime to speak to me. I am terrified that I will mess this meeting up somehow. Would you join me for--" Dinner is too official, lunch is too elementary school-- he shook it off. "A meal sometime? Or the holodeck?"
Halona smiled lightly, "Oh, I see well I don't see how you can mess up the meeting. I would be delighted to join you oN the holo-deck sometime soon duties permitting of course."
Bernard allowed himself to relax. "Great," He said, "meet me at Holodeck 7a, 0430?"
Halona smiled, "I will see you there." she got up slowly, "I need to get back to work now myself otherwise I might not be able to meet you on time." she gave him a wave and then turned to head for the doorway, her stride much more at ease than when she'd first come into the lounge and walked over to his table to talk.
Bernard watched Halona as she exited. She seemed genuinely happy to hangout with him. He raised his hands in an expression of real joy. Then he composed himself to do the rest of his work. He had to finish what he could so he wouldn't be preoccupied during his date tonight. Date?! he thought. "Shut up, this is gonna be awesome!" he said. A few of the diners looked over at him. "Nothing," he said, "everything's fine. Mind your business." They did.
