Reporting for duty
Posted on 23 Nov 2017 @ 7:43am by Captain Akio Tachibana & Captain Jason Kage (Dec-Jan 2389 - TRNSFR, Camp Revenant)
Mission:
He ho'omaka hou 'ana - A New Beginning
Location: Captain's Ready Room - Deck 1
Timeline: 25 Dec 2388
The ceremony complete, Jason Kage strode through the Hawaii's decks. It was time to officially report in to the ship CO. They needed to work together, though the fleet Commander was ultimately in command.
Stopping before the office door, Kage straightened his formal uniform and hit the button. "Captain Kage to Commander Tachibana, reporting for duty."
No response came from inside.
"Enter!" Akio said. He was studying the latest intel on Gorn which was not much and ancient.
Kage entered, still in his dress uniform. He saluted crisply and said, "Captain Jason Kage, Starfleet Marines reporting for duty, sir."
The marine dress uniform looked so much better than the fleet uniform. The design had retained some of the traditions of the old U.S. Marine Corps dress uniform, particularly the red piping along the blue pants.
Akio returned the salute, "Please, have a seat, he said. What unit are you with?"
Akio asked. To be honest, with all the hustle and bustle, he was aware marines were going to be aboard, they were going into war after all, yet he had no situational awareness on who or what those marines would consist of.
"Delta Company of the 3d Marine Raider Battalion under Major West. I'll act as your liaison, should you require anything from my company. Bravo Company's captain is an expert on fleet based marine actions, should any be required. We can perform multi-tasked ops at any time, should the need arise. Had this been a pair of rifle companies, our ability to act would be somewhat limited." Kage explained.
Akio paused. Special Forces. Starfleet was not joking around with this mission.
"Very well. I expected a marine detachment aboard. I know the reputation of Special Forces and I expect you and Bravo Company's Captain to maintain order and discipline. This will not be a pleasure cruise," Akio warned.
"Aye, sir. I sense you've had poor encounters with the more gung-ho marines that inhabit the corps." Kage replied, still standing at ease.
"I have no problem with some of your more passionate cohorts. My problem is more about when they lose sight of the mission and act how you say... stupid," Akio put it mildly. "We have a very important mission and are in a state of war as you know. I am glad we seem to agree," Akio said.
On his last posting, the Marine CO had seemed more lax with his troops and Security was always reporting some new incident that involved a marine.
"Do you have any other questions?" Akio inquired.
"No, sir. Operational security will reveal our mission when allowed. The majority of my work was in behind-the-lines ops and the only reason I survived was avoiding idiotic behavior. Do you have any requests of either Bravo or Delta companies?" Kage asked.
"Even though you're marines, I expect you to operate as part of this crew. I understand there is marine country on the lower decks; however, I do expect you and your fellow Captain to attend Senior Staff meetings unless excused by Major West," Akio said.
At least if they were at the staff meetings, Akio could keep some sort of eye on them. He wasn't sure about this West character or if he was even tagging along for the ride.
"Dismissed, Captain," Akio said.
As the Captain left, Akio started reading up on the unit that was now roaming the decks of his vessel along with their leadership. Then it hit him and Akio chuckled. This is why Vice Admiral Anin was chastising him. Such was the role of leadership and the worries that went along with it.
