The comm system chirped “Bridge! This is Damage Control Party Six, we heard the Captain calling for Doctor Slithig. We’re in Transporter Room Two. We found the Transporter Technician, she was unconscious, got beat up pretty bad. We thought it was from the attack but when she came around, she said the Doctor attacked her and then beamed off the ship, just before we went to Red Alert”

Akio’s heart sank to his stomach. Was Carson, right?

“Security, once we are out of this mess, I want you to investigate the Doctor’s actions,” Akio requested angrily.

"Yes sir", Winchester said wiping soot off his face . Clearing his throat he asked, in a tone laced with anger and sadness, "Sir when I locate the Doctor permission to place him under arrest?"

"I would expect nothing less," Akio replied.

[Deck 11 Medical Bay- Triage]

Master Chief Petty Officer Nurse Mary O’Halloran was just getting the triage list cleared. All of the bay’s biobeds were occupied and they had several patients on gurneys. She crossed to a hygiene station, washed some of the blood and fluids off, the last one had a nearly severed leg and it had taken a while to stop the bleeding. She disposed of the apron and gloves, wiped down her scrubs and put on new gloves.

With Doctor Sthilg missing they were falling behind in getting the injured proper treatment. One of the Science Officers who apparently had an MD was helping out but she and her nurses had a lot to do.

She had heard some crazy rumor that the Doctor had somehow left the ship but how was that possible. She had not known the Gorn long but, despite the Federation being at war with his species, the Doctor had seemed friendly and competent as a physician.

Just then the door opened, she looked over expecting more casualties, there were two Security officers standing there. She crossed over to them, looking for injuries or wounds.

“Well at least nobody’s bleeding to death” She said thankfully, her Irish brogue clear in her voice. “If you’re not seriously wounded, you’ll be having a long wait gentlemen, we’re a little busy right now. Well come on, speak up, what is it you are wanting then? I’ve no time for any nonsense mind!”

O’Halloran was a twenty two year veteran, a damn fine Nurse, she was dedicated and protective of her patients. She gave the three a look that said Officers or not, this was her ward!

Having no time for her tone, Winchester said, in a very loud and hateful tone, "Where is Doctor Silthg, I want him NOW!!

This was not looking good for the missing doctor, could he be the mole that SFI had sent him here to look for? As Stevens pondered the question, he watched the exchange between the Security chief and the nurse.

"You'll not be shouting in here Lieutenant!" O'Halloran responded "There are seriously wounded patients, many in pain, they do not need you yelling your head off"

She moved protectively in front of a badly burned engineer laying on a gurney. The man was in shock and shaking. Winchester's bellowing had upset him further. O'Halloran laid a gentle hand on the man's shoulder comforting him as she leant over to check his vitals.

She turned back to Winchester "You'll keep a civil tongue in your head or you'll have to leave, Security Lieutenant or not. As for your question. I have no idea where the Doctor is, if I did, he'd be here tending to these people."

She fixed Winchester with a glare. O'Halloran was not going to be bullied by this man bursting into the triage ward and creating a disturbance around injured crew.

"Sir," Harry stated looking at Winchester and continued" He is not here" as he knew that a hunt was now on for the missing doctor and when they found him he was going to have a lot of questions to answer.

Winchester just nodded, saying nothing more.

"And sure didn't I just tell you so myself" O'Halloran replied rolling her eyes. "Well, at least you're not shouting Ensign, unlike your Lieutenant here." She turned to Stevens, "So I s'pose you'll be wanting to talk to Petty Officer Wilson then?"

Harry replied "Yes I'd like to please Nurse" as he knew that this could be a source of information on the whereabouts of the missing Doctor, he also knew that by being polite got results and not by shouting your head off like the Lieutenant had.

"Very well then, come along with me" O'Halloran said, leading the way to a side ward.

Transporter Technician Petty Officer Tina Wilson was sat up on a bio bed. There was a large dressing on her forehead on the right side. The left sleeve of her uniform was torn open above the elbow and there was a dressing on her forearm. She opened her eyes when O’Halloran brought the three Security officers to her.

“PO Wilson, Ensign... I didn't get your name?" O'Halloran said, looking back to Stevens

"I'm Ensign Harry Stevens, Assistant chief of Security Ma'am," replied Harry looking back at the formidable nurse who seemed to have put his boss in his place.

"Ensign Stevens, here and his... Lieutenant... have some questions for you. How are you feeling? That was a nasty concussion you had” O’Halloran checked the read-outs on the bed, took some vitals and did a pupil response test.

“I’m ok, still a little dizzy I guess” Wilson replied, sitting up a little straighter and looking to Stevens, Winchester and Ruk. “Is this about what happened in the Transporter room?”

O’Halloran pursed her lips, looked between Wilson and the other two, then nodded. “Alright, she’s had a serious concussion, so you have fifteen minutes, then she needs to rest again. And don’t you be upsetting my patient now you hear.” She fixed Winchester with a look that said Don’t forget laddy, this is my ward! and went back to tend to her other patients.

As he approached a small brunette woman who stood at 5 feet 4 inches tall, Harry said" Can you Please tell me what happened in the transporter room?" he asked hoping he had found the right person. as he gave her a smile to put her at ease, he knew that by being polite it would get results.

“Well, we don’t usually crew the transporters when we’re cruising” Wilson explained “But when we stopped, I was told to get Number Two ready, in case we were going to be transporting personnel to, or from, the Wyoming.

Then I heard they came over in a shuttle and I was told to shut it down again and go back to my regular duties. Just as I was leaving, the Gor- …. Er…I mean… Doctor Sthilg came in.

We bumped right into each other. He’s really, you know, big and… well, tough. He was coming in, I was going out and he knocked me right over! " Wilson said, holding her hand up and then flipping it over in demonstration.

"He tried to catch me before I fell over, he grabbed my arm, that’s how this happened” She pointed to her left arm and bandage. “His claws are really sharp! Well, my arm slipped through, his claw cut me and he only caught my sleeve, which just ripped. Then I fell back sideways and that’s when I banged my head on the Transporter console” She pointed to her forehead.

“It kinda went all black and I don’t really remember much of what happened next, just like odd bits now and then…” She trailed off.

"Did you manage to get a look at the settings before you passed out?" asked Harry as he knew that knowing if the settings had been noted and saved maybe they could be used to find where he went. as he looked back at his security chief who was still in a foul mood.

Winchester again said nothing, leaving the questioning to his junior.

“I don't know about the settings. I'd only just run the routine diagnostics before I heard the Wyoming crew were coming by shuttle. Right after I banged my head, I was on the floor and I remember the Doctor was bending over me and he sort of sat me up against the bulkhead” Wilson offered.

“Then it was black again. The next thing was I heard the transporter start up, I couldn’t see, but I think it's that my eyes were shut, because my head really hurt. When I did look, I saw the Doctor moving towards the pad, then it was black again but I'm sure I heard the transporter start the dematerialization cycle…”

She shook her head, trying to recall but winced at the pain the action brought. “Ouch”

She closed her eyes and sat back for a moment taking a deep breath, then said “I think I heard the Red Alert being called. Then it was all bumpy and I remember getting tossed about a bit. But the next thing I know for sure, was one of the Damage Control guys was shaking my shoulder and they brought me here. " She shut her eyes again for a moment.

"Oh, yes " She opened her eyes again "They asked about my arm and my head, when l said the Doctor did it, they thought... well they thought he attacked me. But he didn't really.... it was just kinda an accident... I don't think he meant to hurt me, we just collided in the doorway" She shrugged. “That’s all I know sir”

"Thank you Petty Officer, that will be all" replied Harry looking back at the exhausted enlisted officer, as he knew that it had taken a lot out of her to talk to him, after all she had been injured when the Doctor had bumped into her in the transporter room.

O”Halloran appeared again “Are we done now gentlemen? The lass needs her rest, so she does. Is there anything else you be wanting?”

"No there is not" Winchester replied

"I'm finished here Nurse," replied Harry looking back at the Nurse as Winchester stood behind him not saying anything more, Harry wondered why had the Doctor done this, was his family in danger? as the questions rolled around in his head.

As Stevens left with Winchester O'Halloran approached him "Ensign, I had to get something from Doctor Sthilg's office while you were talking with Wilson. And I found this, just laying on his desk, bold as brass it was"

She held out her hand and dropped the item into Steven's palm, "It's the Doctor's Combadge"

"Thank you Nurse," replied Harry as he closed his fist around the golden object, He knew now that the Doctor was not coming back and had resigned from Starfleet, He asked" Was that all on his desk?"

"It looked much the same as usual, I s'pose. I only saw the commbadge out of place" O'Halloran answered then was interrupted by a call form another Nurse.

"Chief! Code Blue! The Engineer!"

Without another word O'Halloran took off down the ward.

Harry looked again once more down at the golden object and then back at Winchester and knew next port of call would be searching the Doctor's quarters and terminal to see whom he had been in contact with, Or more importantly why he had betrayed his oaths to the federation and Starfleet.

"Carry on with the investigation Ensign Stevens, check the Doctor's qauarters and the Transporter room. " Winchester instructed. "I have other matters to attend to" He turned on his heel and left the Medical room.
