Canterra Sector
USS Wyoming
Engineering
Iria grumbled under her breath as she worked on fixing yet another problem. Iria's specialty was damage control. Though things had been very exciting (chaotic) on the Wyoming during the last few hours with the scheduled meeting with the USS Hawaii.
She adjusted her ear bud as it played a mixture of her favorite music and songs. It was almost funny to think, a week ago she had been on the Varient station. Now she was making repairs on a Steam runner, during a meeting in a sector she didn't have any information on. Iria hummed softly as she worked out what the current problem was and how best to go about fixing it. She jumped back as a surge of power over loaded the console she had been working on. Iria blinked and checked her hands, only minor burns on the tips of her fingers. She removed her ear bud changed the song selection and replaced it with a smile a she picked up her tools and started again.
The senior staff was to take a shuttle to meet face to face with the USS Hawaii.
The Chief Engineer of the Wyoming, Commander Plante, waltzed over to Iria. "Taltos, I need you to be a co-pilot for a shuttle over to the Hawaii for the Captain and Senior Staff. Get cleaned up and to the shuttle bay in five."
Iria looked up at her current boss, Commander Plante surprise flickering across her features she hadn't exactly been practicing her piloting skills recently (or at all) but she could be a co-pilot. "I will be there but why me and not someone with better flight credentials?" She asked with a bit less cheekiness she had learned (mostly) that Commander Plante wasn't too impressed with her cheekiness on good days let alone when there was mischief and repairs needed tending to.
"When are you going to learn not to ask questions, Taltos? That's for me to know and you to find out," Plante said, smiling as he walked away.
She resisted in sticking out her tongue out at his retreating form and turned herself to go clean up before getting to the shuttle bay.
Wyoming Shuttlebay
Plante entered the shuttle and spoke with Iria in the cockpit.
"Once aboard, we need you to post yourself in Engineering. Captain thinks there may be some trouble aboard, so we need your expertise in making sure everything runs. Can we count on you?" Plante asked.
Iria nodded she was more than happy to help in engineering she wasn't feeling keen on helping pilot a shuttle that held the ship's senior staff but at least she wasn't going to be alone during the piloting. "I will have things purring in no time Commander," she added her signature cheeky smile that showed of a hint of her dimples. Scared or not she wasn't going to let the commander think she wasn't up to the task ahead.
Plante left the cockpit and sat down in the back as the Chief Flight Control Officer, a Lieutenant Commander boarded and sat down next to Taltos.
"I heard you're my co-pilot," the human said. "Ever pilot one of these before, Lieutenant?"
Iria gave him a wry grin as she shook her head slightly, "Unless the holo-deck counts no I haven't gotten much hands on with this type of shuttle recently but I will be very careful and watchful, Sir." Her tone still full of playful cheekiness. She hadn't been aboard the Wyoming that long and so far as far as she was concerned no one had really moved her towards honest open trust so she was on her default of cheekiness and playful smart mouthing.
The Lieutenant Commander looked behind him, giving a playful glare. Great, a noob.
"Okay, just follow my lead. You can call me 'Hedge' unless I give you an order," Hedge said, giving his callsign. "Look up pre-flight checklist and read them to me."
Iria looked up the flight checklist and called out each thing to check over before the shuttle was to lift off it was funny to her the pre flight list had changed over the centuries but some things were the same. "Hedge, it looks like we are good to go."
After the pair went through the checklist, Hedge announced their departure, the shuttle clearing the bay as a fighter joined them to escort.
"Well, here's the welcoming committee. Keep your eyes on that fighter and make sure he doesn't get too close to us."
"Aye, Sir I am in no mood for getting stung today." She was not too worried it vwas protocol to be watched, specially since there was a lot going on. Iria knew she was likely pushing her luck with her cheeky tone towards the LtComder but she didn't really care. She knew (mostly) how far to push before bshe got into trouble and she only went after the trouble when she knew it was worth it.
Hedge kept the shuttle steady as it approached the Hawaii.
"So what made you choose engineering instead of flight control? You seem like a natural," the Commander said, making small talk as the shuttle slowly closed in on the Hawaii.
"Too much that I find tempting to mess with or rather improve in engineering I can fix stuff and mostly stay out of trouble." Iria retorted with another cheeky grin flashing her dimples at Hedge.
"You keep smiling like that, you're bound to end up in more trouble," Hedge shot back. "On your toes, I'm initiating final approach."
Iria just laughed softly as she turned her attention to the area before them the USS Hawaii bay wide open greeted them and the welcome commettee she whistled. "Looks like they expect a wild animal to be let loose, they did get the memo we were coming right?" He cheeky tone didn't waver, she was impressed that Hedge got the shuttle down as if landing on a dime, perfectly smooth like nothing was out of order for the situation.
"They're ready for something... you be careful wherever you're going," Hedge warned ominously.
