It's Not Easy Being Green

Posted on 07 Nov 2017 @ 11:36am by Lieutenant Junior Grade Gidassa Thomas (Dec-Jan 2389 - TRNSFR to Bre'el Dip. Msn.) & Lieutenant Junior Grade Sthilg, M.D. (Dec-Jan 2389 - MIA after Battle of Canterra)

Mission: He ho'omaka hou 'ana - A New Beginning
Location: Sick Bay
Timeline: 22 December 2388

Gidassa entered the Med Bay, a bundle of nerves and energy. A nurse looked up from what she was doing, and before she could even ask, the Orion blurted out "I'm looking for the doctor?" She thought for a fast second about the size of this ship and hastily added "Is the Chief or Assistant Medical officer available?"
The nurse smiled, and pointed further in without saying anything. Something about that smile made her uneasy though. She'd seen it before, on her sister Emma, usually when she was up to something.

No, she was nervous, and jumping to conclusions she told herself, and blitzed off in the indicated direction. The doc would know about pheromone shot effectiveness, or at the very least could look it up. Then he or she would be ready after she talked to the commander and they inevitably called down here for confirmation. It would all work out. At least she hoped so.

She passed through the entry, and turned fast, looking for the doctor...

The chief MD in question was in his office trying to fix a slight problem with his artificial arm. His fingers were now flexing as they were supposed to as he resealed the artificial skin that covered his artificial appendage.

Standing up and looking outside to his new home his eyes fell on an obviously nervous Orion woman. Walking over as slowly and as lest threatening as possible. " Hello, there i'm the chief medical officer do you need assistance." He asked politely.

Gidassa blinked, looking a bit shocked, as her mind ran over the details: Location - correct. Uniform - correct. Body in Uniform - definitely not what she was expecting. She snapped herself out of it though, and realized what the snarky nurse had been amused by, and glanced back out the entry for a half-second. The nurse was now looking Very intently at her paperwork, and obviously suppressing a laugh.

"Uh, yes, Doctor" she replied, trying to get back on task. "I wanted to speak to you before reporting to Commander Tachibana" she said, pausing and waving one hand slightly as she composed her thoughts, "in case he has questions about Orions and pheromone suppression shots. I thought it would be good for you to have a heads-up so you wouldn't be caught off guard when he calls." She silently kicked herself; she'd meant to say "IF he calls", but "when" made it sound inevitable. And "heads-up"? Could this guy's head get any further up?! She met some tall races at Academy but he was definitely right up there with them.

"I'm worried that the Commander may have...concerns about having an Orion on board. I was hoping you would be able to reassure him. You know, that I won't be any more of a distraction than anyone else?"

The gorn gave a polite smile as he guided the nervous orion over to one of the private rooms. It still wasn't finished and was completely bare. " There that'sss better" the gorn said as he tried to calm the orion. " Ssso I have to ask you are taking the sssuppressssion ssshot?" He asked as he brought up a wrist-mounted computer and began typing.

She followed him into the room, then remembered her manners - finally. "I'm Lt JG Thomas" she said, offering her hand, "pleased to meet you sir." She cast a glance about the room; was this ship really going to be ready for launch? She pulled her attention back to the doctor, to answer his question.

"Yes sir, once a week, like clockwork" she replied, feeling more at ease after her initial surprise. "I've never missed one, and the only time I was late was when there was a supply issue - out of my control" she told him truthfully. Yes, she'd pulled some shenanigans at Academy, but it wasn't due to that at least!

" Very good and may i get a scan to make sure it's working?" The doctor replied as he brough up her file and made a few notes. " I'm doctor Ssshilg by the way. It'sss a plesure to meet you."

"Thank you sir; feel free to do whatever you need to" she replied with a smile. "How long have you been aboard? Can you tell me what the commander is like?" she asked, prospecting for information. Knowledge really was power after all. Right now, she figured she needed all she could get before their first meeting.

" I've only been on the ssship for a ssshort while, but the commander seems like a decent hard working man." The gorn replied as he ran a scanner along the orion. " Well according to this it's working perfectly. Your pheromone gland isn't producing pheromones." He replied reassuringly.

"Okay, good" she said, thinking for a moment. "Well, I guess if I've got a clean bill of health, it's time to meet our Commander" she said. "He may be calling in a bit, I really don't know" she told the Gorn, as she straightened her uniform unconsciously. "If all goes well, I'll be stopping by in 5 days for my next shot."

" I'll sssee you then. " The gorn responded giving the warmest smile his reptilian mouth would allow.

"Thank you Doctor. I'll see you" she said, turning to leave, then whispering quietly to herself as she entered the main med bay area "I hope."
