Emma took a deep breath, she knew she needed to make a good impression with the man she would be reporting for the foreseeable future. One last adjustment to her hair and a quick tug on her uniform to make sure it was straight she entered the science department and began to search for Commander Tolkath.

She had done her fair share of research on him and she really wanted to get off on a good foot with the Commander. She caught a glimpse of the pointed ears and the black hair. Taking a step forward she could see his face and it matched the personal file of Commander S'chqenr T'Jedf Tolkath.

Tolkath had recently returned from a Command Team meeting where he had learned some unpleasant details of Gorn activities on Canterra from Marine Captain Bolingbroke. The Captain had requested some information on the mine operations at the Xore settlement and Tolkath was doing research when he heard a voice address him.

Emma stepped forward, "Excuse me Commander Tolkath, my name is Ensign Emma Walken. I've been assigned to the Hawaii as your new Biologist. It's nice to meet you sir and I look forward to working with you and getting to know you better." She smiled softly after she finished speaking.

Tolkath turned to see a tall and athletic Human female, brown hair and eyes, in Science Teal. This would be one of the replacements from within the Task Force. There had been some rotation of crews to make up for losses incurred during yesterday's battle.

His Deputy Lieutenant Eriksson had been reassigned to the Adelaide and Walken was one of the incoming personnel to the Hawaii.

"Ensign. Welcome aboard." He greeted her and cut straight to business "Biology is your primary, do you have a secondary specialty?"

"Biology is my primary field yes, as for a secondary specialty I did study biochemistry as well so I can help out with that as well." Emma let out a quiet breath of relief she was happy that Commander Tolkath seemed rather nice.

"I see and what is your previous service and experience?" He asked, there had not yet been time to review the new personnel's files.

"Other than my schooling sir, none. I received my commission through the ROTC program. After I finished my studies I was sent to the Hawaii which was the ship I requested to serve on." She answered honestly.

Tolkath nodded "Your first assignment then Ensign, I believe it will prove... interesting" He briefly wondered again why this ship was constantly being assigned new and inexperienced personnel. Starfleet Command still appeared to be willing failure on the vessel and the reason for that was neither clear nor logical...

"Very well, I suggest you immediately begin research into Gorn biology and physiology via our science data base. While there, also review the studies of the bio-implants that were surgically attached to prisoner's taken from the USS Wyoming, we have been researching those here."

Tolkath was going to continue assigning her tasks but stopped "Walken... there was a Marine Sergeant by that name in the group we rescued. Would he be the reason for your request to serve aboard this ship?"

"I will get to it right away Commander, I did take the time to do a little research on Gorn biology during the long shuttle ride here." Emma nods as she listens to the second half of what he said.

"You would be correct Commander, Sergeant Kyle Walken, is my brother.. He is the main reason I transferred here but l don't want that to seem like I'm not going to focus on my work."

"I see" Tolkath nodded "For your first duty, you have fifty five minutes to conduct an initial review of the research into the Implants. Just familiarize yourself for now. Then meet me in the Marine Command Briefing room at twenty thirty hours. Questions?"

"I will start there before the briefing then and make sure to expand my research afterward, but I guess I would like to know what the briefing is about if I am allowed to ask sir."

"You are allowed, and indeed, encouraged, to ask Ensign" Tolkath replied. "Learn though, that you will not always receive answers.

It is an occurrence you must accept. However, the true scientist will never let that disuade them from their enquieries...."

"The best scientist never stops asking questions and questioning why things work the way they do." Emma smiled. "I don't plan to ever stop asking them."

He let that sink in for a moment, then said "Carry on then Ensign" Tolkath waved her away and returned to reviewing geological data.

Emma nods, "Thank you, Commander." She turned away, she made sure to grab a PADD so she could fulfill the first order of the Commander.
