Yellow and Green Meeting Again
Posted on 29 Jan 2019 @ 9:28am by Lieutenant Commander Iria Taltos & Gunnery Sergeant Kyle Walken
Mission:
Ka Hakaka Maikaʻi - The Good Fight
Location: Mess hall
Timeline: After Aftermath briefing
[Hawaii-Mess Hall]
Iria walked into the mess after her shift, she had been busy with repairs and setting up duty shift for the engineering teams, it had busy the last few days, with Kosu in Sickbay she was in charge and doing her best. Now she just wanted to find food and maybe a friendly face. She stopped short seeing a very familiar face, "Walken?!! That you?" She was actually very shocked, last she had seen him was just before the command staff of the Wyoming had having her go with them to the Hawaii. Then the Wyoming had been destroyed. She had no idea he had survived. During their last meeting, she had been rather bratty in front of him, as she argued with the ASEC of the Wyoming, he had the nerve to say she hadn't done a repair properly.
Kyle for the first time in two weeks was able to get some food, the Gorn had been less than hospitable with the survivors of the Wyoming they had captured. Now alone on a ship of mostly strangers, a familiar voice cut through the mess hall. "Taltos?" He pushed aside his meal and looked up at his friend from the Wyoming. "I didn't know there were other survivors aside from the ones who were captured with me...at least those who made it off the Gorn ship."
Iria walked over and gave his shoulder a gentle poke as it making sure he was actually there in front of her. "I wasn't on the Gorn ship, when the Command staff came to the Hawaii for a chat, they had me go down to help in engineering. Last I heard the ship went the way of the Dodo and no survivors. If I had known folks had been taken I would have asked about going looking." she eyed his meal and shook her head, "Do you want a stuffed steak sandwich, I managed to get a deal going with the Lounge Manager here, I get to leave a few steaks prepared for when I want them. I keep their replicators running smooth as silk."
Kyle just kinda tilts his head confused as to why she was poking his shoulder. "Be happy you were not there Taltos... it was not a good time. I know you would have pushed to come save us." He looks down at his plate after her talk of steak and he wasn't about to pass her up on the offer. "I would love one, after all that it will be nice to eat as much as I can. Sounds like you got yourself set up here pretty well, there is still the question of what happens to me and the rest of the Wyoming survivors thou."
"Have a seat I will be right back, you want a root beer or something?" She asked lightly, she knew most saw drinking soda as childish but it was what she preferred over burning her taste buds with strong liquor. Though admittedly she did like spiced rum and root beer on rare occasion. She was a literal light weight when it came to liquor tolerance. Iria could only guess what he had been through but she was not going to harp on the stuff she couldn't fix or help. She could be a friend to her friend and offer ideas as best she could.
"Anything but root beer, it's the one soda I can't stand." He chucked little for the first time in what he felt like forever. "I know normally people would think about drinking at this point but drowning what happened in liquor won't be useful right now." Normally Kyle would have loved a bottle of whiskey right now but he figured if he saw a councilor they would want to talk about his need to go straight for liquor to bury the emotions of what he went through.
Iria grinned cheekily at him, "That might be because you haven't tried all the different types of root beer, but I won't haggle you today. They have other types of soda from strawberry, grape and funky fruit punch soda to other colas, the teas are decent and you know I don't drink coffee but the french vanilla cappuccino is awesome." She much preferred extra chocolate hot chocolate or excessive peppermint loaded hot chocolate. If she was willing to drink a cappuccino it had to be very good.
Kyle would have normally laugh and be more positive at Iria's cheeky diameter but after what he had been through joy wasn't something high on his list. "Surprise me then."
Iria nodded and headed for the lounge manager's kitchen, she came out a few moments later with a plate of stuff steak sandwich, slice of pie and two drinks on a tray in her hands. She set the tray on the table and gave him a wry grin, "I went easier on the chili peppers in the stuffing this time so you shouldn't get too red in the face."
Kyle stared at the wonderful looking food as it was brought out to him. "Thank you, not the biggest fan of spices." He grabbed one of the sandwiches and bite into it within a second. After chewing he looked at Iria, "What have you been doing? Two weeks on this ship have they treated you well?"
"I've been trying to stay out of trouble but they have been treating me well here yes, still surprised that Carson tried to take over the Hawaii, and more surprised I didn't end up in the brig over it." she shook her head as she sat down and made sure the push the pie over to him. "No offense but you really need the calories, you look like you've been to hell and back, with no food or water." she added lightly. She had no idea what the Gorn had done to him and the rest of their prisoners, at least they were alive and out of there now.
"He made a dumb call, but at least you didn't have to suffer for it." Kyle notices that she was pushing the pie towards him. "Trust me...I think I was the luckiest of the captives, I don't know if it was because I'm just a no one Sergeant that they didn't experiment or kill me, or if its because the first chance I got I fought back. I never stopped fighting, it got to the point they wouldn't come within an arms reach of me if it was just one of them." he took a quick drink before looking Iria in the eyes. "I don't understand why they did those experiments or what will happen to the others from the Wyoming that were experimented on."
Iria shook her head softly, "I would say that is up to the Doctors and counselors, once they are cleared for duty. They can likely ask to join the crew here or be reassigned as they decide." she guessed at any rate, she had no idea their conditions or how extensive their treatments would be.
"The Lieutenant who was part of the rescue team offered to have me assigned to work with them here on the Hawaii, I told him I need to think about it. I get the feeling that is why the XO of the ship wants me to meet with him today as well."
Iria nodded, "They seem pretty straight forward around this ship not so close to the chest like on the Wyoming but I am sure they had their reasons." It was one of the reasons she felt more welcome on the Hawaii versus her brief stint aboard the Wyoming.
"Well, to be honest, I don't think the Wyoming was a good fit for me, but when you are an enlisted marine you learn that you don't get to question orders much. If you are told to jump you say how height, I know it's somewhat the same in the Navy." Kyle finished the wonderful pie, it was one of the best he had in long time. "My compliments to the chef." he laughs as he looks at Iria.
Iria shook her head laughing, "You know I can't make pie right yet. last time I tried it was burnt around the edges and underdone in the middle, I would not feed that to you, that pie is the Lounge manager's dessert of the day." iria liked to cook but there there several things she did not cook well yet, though when time allowed she was start practicing again.
"I figured as much that it was the manager, I didn't know you cooked at all. I'm sure you get to the point of making something wonderful for yourself and others." Kyle leans back and gives her a thumbs up. "How is the CEO of this ship? Better or worse then the Wyoming?"
"She is a bit antisocial but she gets the job done and she doesn't seem to hate me yet. So I would say better than on the Wyoming, even if it isn't nice to speak ill of the recently departed it is still true." Iria said lightly but bluntly honest.
"I'm sure she will warm up to you at some point." Kyle was silent for a few minutes as he looks out at the stars. "I wouldn't worry about speaking ill of the dead."
Iria gave a cheeky grin, "Sure just like you did after a few run in's." she retorted daring him to deny it but if he did it wouldn't offend. She knew she hadn't always been on her best behavior when he had walked in on her interactions with others. Though one on one she was usually nice enough. At least she didn't remember being openly hostile to him.
"Like you are the only person it took me a bit to warm up too." Kyle laughs, "Plus I believe we never did finish that arguement when we first met, I think we left off with me saying it was your fault and you saying it was my fault." It felt good to relive some of the good memories onboard the Wyoming before the Gorn.
Iria gave a light laugh, "Totally your fault, I was trying to get out of the jefferies tubes when you came crashing down, on your patrol practice with Security."
"And who made the choice to just come flying out of the tube with out looking before she leaped?" Kyle crossed his arms and made a face as he pretends to wonder. "Oh yes I believe it was a one Lieutenanat JG Iria Taltos."
The ribbing began from there....
