Check Up!

Mission: He ho'omaka hou 'ana - A New Beginning
Location: Sickbay

As per all new assignments, it was customary to report to the ships Chief Medical Officer to be declared fit for service. Ren wanted to get this formality out of the way so he could get down to work.

He walked into sickbay with a spring in his step. He was keen to meet the ships doctor, although he didn’t have a clue who the CMO was. He glanced around the what seemed like an empty sickbay. “Hello?” The Bajoran called out. “Anyone here?”

Said doctor was in his small office trying with a great deal of effort to keep the federation reptilian protein bock down. He swallowed the foul tasting bar as he heard the voice and after grabbing his coat he walked out into the rather empty sickbay. The sooner he got both of his yeomen the better. Seeing the bajoran he walked over trying to look as least threatening as possible. " Hello there I'm Sssthilg MD can I help you?"

Ren couldn’t help but look shocked when the Gorn approached him. “Erm, Hi.” He said still staring at the Gorn. “Forgive me for staring, I didn’t know there was any Gorn serving in Starfleet?”

"It'sss quite alright there are only of us in the fleet. I'm number six to be exact." The gorn replied having had this treatment to many times to count.

“Apologies, it’s just you don’t expect to see a Gorn ina Starfleet Medical uniform.” Ren said with a smile. “Not that it’s a problem. I’m Lieutenant Ren, I’m transferring aboard for the USS Jericho.”

"Well nice to meet you Ren. You're hear for your checkup?" The gorn inquired.

The Helmsman nodded, “I thought I’d get it done bet and done with early this time around. The Doctor on my last ship spent ages trying to get me in sickbay for my medical.”

" Very well if you'll follow me." The gorn responded as he headed for the nearest bio bed and fished in his pockets for a padd. " Any injuriesss or illnessss not on your record sssince the last checkup?" He asked politely.

Ren shook his head. “No, I’m all good on that front.” He said as he followed the Doctor to the closest Bio bed and hoped up.

" Very good. May take ssslightly longer than normal engineeringsss still getting all the computersss online. " The gorn stated as he started up the computer.

“It’s not a problem. I understand it’s very complex getting a ship of this size operational.” Ren replied as the Doctor started his scans.

"Isss the ship'sss flight control up to date?" The gorn inquired.

“I need to check it over, I’ve not actually taken a look yet. I’ve only been on board a couple of hours. Engineering is my next port of call before I head back to the bridge and start taking a look at the flight controls properly.”

" Here'sss hoping it will all be sssorted out by the time we get underway."

“I’m sure she will be. You will get little bugs in the system for a couple of weeks but everything will work it’s way out.” Ren replied. “So how long have you been in Starfleet?”

" Mossst of my life. After i left home i had nowhere elssse to go." The gorn replied

“By the sounds of it, you were forced to leave the Hegemony?” Ren asked, but regretted instantly. “I’m sorry, it’s none of my business. I didn’t mean to pry.”

" I never knew it. I grew up on a colony ssso far off the map I doubt the hegemony knew it existed. Or maybe they jussst forgot about usss. " The doctor responded his voice changing slightly.

“I suppose it happens. Governments get too involved in other matters and forget about the little people.” Ren replied.

" True." The gorn said as the scanner bleeped indicating it had finished. " Well everything looksss perfectly with excitable levels." He said grin as his eyes darted over the screen.

“Well that’s always good to know.” Kannu said as he sat up. “Do you need me for anything else, Doc?”

" Nothing right now. You're cleared for duty." The doctor said smiling.

“Thank you very much, Doctor.” Ren said with a pleased look on his face. “I’ll see you around.”

"Sssee you around." The gorn said as he began saving the new medicle file on the computer.
