Mission: Ohuna - The Secret
Location: Main Shuttlebay, Lower Level - Deck 7
Timeline: 0816, 1 Mar 2389 - Approximately 1 week after the end of hostilities

Major West had arrived and found the Battalion formed up already. He knew there would be changes coming. Colonel Hayes had already warned him about that. He also recognized after a large ground campaign, most of the personnel would receive new orders. It was part of the healing process and that vast experience would benefit Starfleet more if it were spread around to lesser experienced units rather than concentrated in one unit.

The Major found the Sergeant Major and started walking through the formations.

Walken stood near the front of the formations checking to make sure everyone was lined up in order, “Officer on deck!” He announced as every single Marine was at attention now focused on Major West.

West studied the new Gunnery Sergeant and gave a smirk.

“Looking good, Gunny,” West remarked.

Walken salutes the Major before taking his place in the formation.

Doctor Aldana’s Quarters

Doctor Amiri Aldana 365 had heard the call to the shuttlebay, and after returning to hir quarters, changing into a full, freshly pressed uniform. S/he then went about putting Luuna and Sombra into their finest vests in each of their own appropriate department colors – mustard for Luuna and teal for Sombra – s/he gathered them up and headed down.

Main Shuttlebay, Lower Level - Deck 7

Once the trio had arrived, s/he looked around and was surprised to discover no one else from Medical had arrived yet, so s/he started hir own portion of the formation giving a slight bit of distance from Major West’s crew. S/he put the two Austrailius Dogs in their best ‘at attention’ sit-stay and took hir position between them; Luuna on hir left, Sombra on hir right.

Glancing briefly at the company of marines, Doctor Aldana quickly turned hir eyes, hoping no one noticed. S/he hoped the rest of the medical department would show up shortly. Amiri also hoped to see Lieutenant Bernard soon too.

Aldana glanced down at Sombra briefly, who had a question on his mind, ~Ware Sif?~

Doctor Perrin Arc patted Aldana as he came in. “How do these meetings go on this ship? Tight, or casually?” He asked.

Aldana lit up at the sight of Doctor Arc, whom s/he hugged briefly before returning to hir position. “Ya got me, I can’t recall the last time we had one quite like this; all gathered here in the shuttle bay like this…”

Perrin nodded and straightened his uniform. “Then I guess I should be solemn. See you later, Doctor.” He said and made for his assigned seat.

Doctor Aldana felt a little down, s/he’d hoped to have some company.

Doctor Emerson had just settled into her office and was about to get ready for her first session of the morning when the announcement came summoning her to the shuttle bay. She hadn’t felt the ship shake or obviously heard the red alert klaxon, so she had no reason to think they were all being summoned for an emergency, and yet, she remained somewhat on guard. Spotting her colleagues for medical and counseling, she joined the formation easily enough and nodded her greetings to each of the people that had caught her eye.

Ensign Owen Grennel, a tall blonde and almost gaunt human came in behind Arc, an indecipherable expression on his face. He scanned the room and took his assigned place. If you weren’t looking for him, you wouldn’t notice him.

Ensign Serena Keen was among the new transfers to the USS Hawai’i, Serena was definitely petite when compared to the average of Trill women, she had the more familiar twin line of spotted pigmentation running down the sides of her body, though most were covered currently by her uniform, her status in intelligence department marked in gray.

T`Lara had been in a meeting with T`Mar, the head of security. The two Vulcan females walked in side by side. The Vulcan hybrid walked in first as she was of a higher rank, but both Vulcans looked serious and emotionless. T`Lara was quiet as she looked around the shuttlebay.

T`Mar nodded to the Major as she stood next to the battalion. She had ordered her assistant chief to bring in the security force. She figured they would be coming in soon.

Harry entered the shuttle bay followed by the ship’s security force in their dress whites along with Lady Sif walking next to him with her K-9 brethren behind her. Still he knew that those that had consented to become part of the Hawai’i’s K-9 division had stepped up in the last few months with their training, as each dog came to a halt in front of their respective handlers and sat down, this gave him a sense of pride that an idea was once more working as it should.

Halona followed the lounge personal while helping in setting up the last of the refreshments to be available after this assembly of the crew. Her uniform was spotless, and her hair pulled up into a French braid. She took her place near the stage to be ready to hand the Captain the awards or pips encased in boxes he was intending to give out. She had no knowledge of whom was getting what, but she wasn’t going to let the mystery keep her from helping the Captain. She glanced around watching as folks came in, the smile on her face softened when she saw Steven Bernard walking in with the rest of security and tactical.

Steven Bernard walked in, the most rigid figure among the security team, but the black side of his face was smiling. He scanned the room and sent Halona the slightest of nods. Doctor Aldana was across the room, his only other friend as of yet. He raised his hand, almost to greet hir, but he made no move other than to take his place in the room. He felt happy, but at the same time, intensely solemn. People had died, people were hurt, and he was still an outsider. One day that would change, but probably not today.

Rora walked in with her hair pulled into a bun on the back of her head but had let a few curls loose to trail down her back. Her uniform was free of wrinkles or anything else.

Janice slid in unnoticed, or at least she had hoped. She wasn’t all that sociable today as she got some sour news.

The only senior member of the intelligence department, Eira Cortez, walked in and found her place somewhere noticeable but not too noticeable. She took her spot and stood at ease with her hands behind her in a relaxed position.

Iria Taltos had finished the last report and then after checking her appearance she made a side stop in her quarters to get a fresh uniform after washing her face. She made a face at her reflection in the mirror as she braided her hair and twisted it into a bun on the back of her head. Once she was presentable, she headed for the shuttle bay, wondering what the Captain had up his sleeve this time. Iria walked into the shuttle bay, seeing Kyle with the Marines, she winked playfully at him, as she passed him by on her way to her seat.

Kyle knew better than to react or say anything he simply let the wink pass and gave Iria a nod.

A few minutes passed as the hall got quieter as the hour approached. Each department was formed up and the periodic shift of fabric became the only sound.

A Master Chief entered the bay and announced, “CAPTAIN ON THE DECK!”

Akio strode in with Colonel McGruder in tow as they made their way to the front.

The Master Chief made his way behind a podium put at the front, off to the side. The UFP flag was in the center, now behind Akio and the Colonel as they faced the formation.

“ATTENTION TO ORDERS,” the Master Chief started, “The President of the United Federation of Planets, acting upon the recommendation of the Secretary of Defense, has placed special trust and confidence in the patriotism, integrity, and abilities of Lieutenant Iria Taltos. In view of these special qualities, and her demonstrated potential to serve in the higher grade, Lieutenant Taltos is promoted to the grade of Lieutenant Commander, Starfleet, effective the first day of March, 2398, by order of the Secretary of Starfleet.”

**~~Fiddle faddle and fudge nuggets.~~** Iria thought to herself as she looked up at hearing her name then the details of her being promoted. She felt her face flush with embarrassment, but she stood as straight as she could, and walked forward to collect her new pip. “Thank you I will try to live up to it.” She said as calmly as she could.

Akio returned Iria’s salute before she returned to formation.

When Kyle Walken’s name was read, Major West himself stepped out of formation and stopped in front of Kyle, his hand outstretched with his new insignia.

“Congratulations, Gunny,” West said quietly.

Walken took hold of the insignia, “I won’t let you down Major.” He replied giving a quick salute before returning to his position in the formation.

The Major returned the salute, proud of one of his marines for their achievement.

Bernard went to the front of the room, received his orders, and saluted the Captain. He returned to his seat, feeling Jimbob’s eyes on him. It doesn’t matter what he thinks of you. Bernard nodded at the voice and went back to his seat. He thought he might replicate a cupcake for himself later. A promotion is a reason to celebrate, after all.

The Master Chief continued reading the orders for promotion. At the end, Akio broke the silence and applauded as the bay erupted.

“At ease, please,” Akio projected as he made his way to the podium. He knew himself enough to know that it was better to speak into the mic so all could hear.

“Thank you Master Chief for serving as our emcee and coordinating today’s presentation. Today is very special for many of you as you are promoted to the higher grade which is well-deserved. As negotiations begin, I know many of you are asking ‘what happens next?’ and that is a valid question.

“As always, we are explorers first, peacekeepers second. Our Task Force CO, Vice Admiral Banda has been confirmed as the new CO of Third Fleet. As we are re-assigned to Third Fleet, our orders are to rendezvous at PFY for repair, resupply, and conducting a Raeya Corridor Transit.

“As I am sure you are all aware, tensions are high in the corridor with the Free Romulan Movement and the Klingon Civil War raging in the background.

“I will not keep you from your duties further and want to close with this: You have done Starfleet and the UFP proud by your actions over the past months during the latest Gorn War. Your sweat has saved gallons of bloodshed on both sides and once more has restored peace to our area of the quadrant.

“I would like to see Senior Officers in the Bridge Conference Room at 10:00. Dismissed.”

As Akio stepped away from the podium and departed, the Master Chief called the room to attention.

“Carry On!” Akio shouted as he departed.

Janice hurried out of the shuttle bay and almost ran to her quarters. There was something that needed her attention quickly.

Iria was still gob smacked by the promotion and realization she was likely now officially in charge of Engineering instead of acting CEO. She resisted in muttering a string of swears as she shook her head and walked over to the table that had food spread out; she wasn’t going to leave without getting something…

Emerson congratulated those who had been promoted and she considered doing the same for Iria, but she wasn't sure if doing so would further make the woman uncomfortable. She got the distinct impression from the expression on the other woman's face that being the center of attention wasn't the most comfortable place for her to be. She made a mental note to check in with her later as perhaps inquiring one on one as to how she was would be less uncomfortable.

The counselor was glad they had all been called for this promotion ceremony. So much of Starfleet service was about surviving crises and coming together under stress, it was nice to celebrate as a team. As Emerson started to make her way back to her office, she noticed Janice moving hurried Lee out of the room. Concerned, she wondered if she should follow. They were moving in the same direction thus far. Perhaps she would wait a few minutes and then pay the doctor a call.

Dr. Soran’s Quarters

Entering her quarters, she re-read the news she got and almost cried. This might be the reason she might have to leave the Hawaii but wasn’t sure until she knew more……

After the awards ceremony had finished Harry was still holding the small Ivory box that the Captain had not long given him which contained the small single gold pip which signified his promotion to that of full Lieutenant and with that promotion came the position of Assistant Chief of Security, as he thought to himself One more rung on the ladder back to Chief of Security, a position that he once held.

He also knew that his wife would be happy for him in her own unique way and since their link he had felt more at ease than he had been in the last few years. He looked down at Sif who was as hungry as he was. He hoped that the K-9s would have been catered for by the unit, but this was a time for a treat as he gave Sif some meat to snack on.
