Even as a kid he knew that all he wanted to do was fly, at the age of eighteen he left home once he applied and was accepted into the Academy.

Once in the Academy, he gained his nickname that would soon become his callsign Paperboy. He was studying history and someone brought in an old paperboy hat, one of his classmates convinced Kojima to wear it and he ended up wearing it for the rest of the year. People began to call him Paperboy and it just kinda stuck.

With his time at the Academy finished Ensign Tanahashi was assigned to the USS Hawaii, he arrived at XFY just after the Second Battle of XFY and has since been assigned to the Hawaii's starfighter detachment.
