As one of the regional trading, hubs, Bre'el IV received its fair share of visitors, and so one could find accommodations for all sorts of species and cultures on the planet. One such retreat catered to those from freer societies where covering one’s body could be just an option, as well as those Bre'ella who embraced naturalism either all or just part of the time, and those of any species or culture who might find the standard manner of dress to be stifling now and again.
Built in cooperation with a Risian hospitality concern, the resort took up the whole of a small equatorial island. Bathed in the radiant tropical sunlight, a network of small personal cabanas connected by raised walkways gave access to long white sand beaches gently brushed by waves of iridescent blue sea. In addition, there were two well equipped spa facilities, a restaurant to complement room service, athletic facilities, an aquarium which offered guided wildlife tours, and even a ballroom for social events.
Also, on the island, out away from the resort there was a small village of naturalists complete with their own economy and ecosystem. There were shops, and entertainment venues, personal dwellings, families, and even a school. Male, Hermaphrodite, Female and other, all varying ages, young and old dwelt in the naturalist community.
Pets, and especially service animals are extremely welcome. Many people of the island have non-humanoid dwelling-mates of all shapes and varieties, and thus understand and enjoy the levels they and others will go to make sure their life-long companions healthy, happy, comfortable during their stay.
Visitors to the resort town came either by boat from the mainland, or some with accommodating crew transported right down – however they were expected to already be compliant with local “dress codes” prior to transport.
Amiri had first – unsuccessfully – tried the ladder. After a lengthy disagreement with the assistant transporter chief on whether it was appropriate or even allowed for hir to beam down in such a state of lack of apparel Doctor Aldana was inclined to acquiesce. After all, as they say, she held all the keys.
Amiri, Luuna, and Sombra were traveling via the boat method and were about a quarter of their way to the island when the captain announced they were over international waters. Amiri observed this was the cue many of the passengers and some of the crew were waiting for. Whatever little attire they had been wearing, soon disappearance. Amiri found hirself amused at how little covering accounted for all the difference between what was considered decent.
It wasn’t long before the trio found themselves walking the gangplank, down the dock to the pathway that lead right to the resort accommodations. S/he looked around. Many had undoubtedly been here before or were accompanied by someone, and so there didn’t seem to be much question for them, but Amiri felt a bit overwhelmed.
me'Rhanee was seated in the shade of one of the local trees, enjoying a tropical breeze that ruffled her fur, and watching the new arrivals file down the ferry’s gangplank. Perhaps there would be somebody interesting to talk to in this bunch of new arrivals, or a member of one of the region’s more exotic species. The infinite diversity of life had always fascinated her, and every strange new creature she met was a welcome discovery.
What she hadn’t expected to see was a familiar face, looking through the crowd she was quite surprised to see a Starfleet officer she recognized. The al'Hmatti stood up on her hind legs and started to wave one of her giant ursine paws over her head. “Hey, over here! Dr…” curses what was their name again? They had been a casual acquaintance in the past, so it was taking a moment to dredge up the relevant information. “Dr. Aldente!”
Out of the corner of hir eye, Amiri saw a large being acting in a peculiar manner. She was waving frantically trying to get someone’s attention. It took Aldana just a moment to realize it was hir. Then the butchering of hir name from a member of this particular species cinched it. “me'Rhanee? Is that you?” S/he darted over to the ursine-like lifeform and wrapped hir arms around her in a hug as best s/he could. “How many times do I have to tell you, you may call me Amiri.”
Sombra perked up and started excitedly investigating. Meanwhile Luuna stood-by, she wanted to pry herself between them, she couldn’t do her self-appointed job if she couldn’t, but she was used to this type of greeting from Alpha by now, and so she sat to wait it out.
“Alright, It’s Amiri then.” me'Rhanee demurred as she wrapped her forelimbs around Amiri, returning hir embrace with gusto. Though not too much gusto, she’d learned quickly that not all aliens were set up to handle her more …enthusiastic greetings. “I didn’t expect to see you here,” She rumbled warmly. “Are you stationed on the Hawai’i?”
Finishing their embrace, Amiri gave me'Rhanee’s rear right cheek a quick grope before taking a step back. S/he’d never seen such a fine Ursine specimen, to-date s/he still hadn’t. She made hir smile as s/he took in all there was too behold. “Oh, I’ve missed you; have you lost weight? How did you know I was from the Hawai’i? Have you been here long?”
Now that there was daylight between Alpha and the other big furry, Luuna felt a bit better and relaxed. She greeted the being, nudging her paw to see if she could get some petting.
Sombra on the other paw stood by waiting to see what was going on. He nudged Alpha to let hir know he was still there for hir if s/he should need him.
… To Be Continued?…
