The communication officer's panel beeped indicating an incoming transmission, this time on an unusual Federation Diplomatic channel. They alerted the OOD, who had it sent to the screen.
The Federation Diplomatic Corp's logo briefly appeared, then was quickly replaced by the visage of a Bolian female.
"USS Hawaii, this is Captain Alendora of the Federation Diplomatic Courier Détente. May I speak with your Captain please," She asked politely.
Aware of the earlier mishap in handling incoming communications, the Bridge Officer swiftly alerted Tachibana in his Ready Room.
"Sir, I have a communication from a Captain Alendora, of the Diplomatic Courier Détente. She is requesting to speak with you, may I put her through?"
"Yes, send it to my Ready Room," Akio replied.
"Good Morning Captain Tachibana" The Bolian greeted him from his desk screen "We are enroute to Bre'el IV, I expect to make orbit in about nine hours.
"The Diplomatic Corps was alerted of some possible concerns on Bre'el by Vice Admiral's Anin's office. I have a Diplomatic Mission team aboard, who will remain on Bre'el during this current... situation.
"We also have a couple of your crew transfer personnel who did not make it to Providence Yards before your departure."
Akio was again somewhat surprised, yet considering all that was happening around the Hawaii, the surprises became relatively less-so.
"Very well. I appreciate you giving them transport. Our Chief Diplomatic Officer was able to secure headway for the use of Bre'el's transport and supply vessels for the Gorn Theater in exchange for serious talks of funding The Falric Institute. We are sending a full report for Starfleet," Akio explained.
"Thank you Captain. I will pass your success on to the Head of Mission, Lesai Tolkath." The Bolian acknowledged "I'm sure she would like to meet with you once we arrive. By the way, she is the wife of one of your Officers we have aboard, Lieutenant Commander Tolkath."
While a Lieutenant Commander was still a junior officer, it was the most senior. Akio was pleasantly surprised by both the relation and the fact LT Salmon was being transferred. Although his nervousness and intellect really meant this assignment wasn't exactly up his alley. No, LT Salmon belonged in a lab or somewhere he could pass on his vast knowledge to others.
"That sounds wonderful," Akio replied amicably.
"I will see you this evening Captain, until then.
FDC Détente: Guest Quarters 09.55hrs
The door opened and Lesai entered the cabin. It was very well appointed, even luxurious, not that she or her husband particularly cared. Beyond agreeing that the bed was comfortable, the rooms were spacious and that the bathroom functioned appropriately, the rest was of little concern to the Vulcan couple.
Entering the bedroom Lesai found Tolkath in the open space at the end of the bed, completing a complex series of Sha'mura movements. Each was a fluid transition between a set of ancient Vulcan combat stances. The movements practiced daily and memorized until they happened almost without thought, enabling the mind to focus simply on the mental and physical process of the movements. It developed mental discipline and concentration.
Her husband had been training his mind and body in this manner since he could first walk. While his eyes were closed in concentration she knew he was aware of her presence and she did not disturb him.
Tolkath completed the final series of movements and became still. Allowing his muscles to relax as he deepened his breathing and settled his pulse. Opening his eyes he turned to his wife.
"We are on schedule I believe."
"You are correct." Lesai nodded. "Captain Alendora just informed me we will arrive at Bre'el in approximately nine hours. I have a meeting in ten minutes, shall we meet for lunch at one fifteen?"
"Indeed, I will meet you in the dinning room. That will give me time to review the Hawaii's science division personnel roster."
"Good, I will see you at one fifteen" Lesai nodded and turned to leave "You are still dropping your left elbow, during the forth transition," She said as she left.
Tolkath brow furrowed "I do not believe that is accurate."
"Mmmm I know," Lesai replied as the door closed behind her
Tolkath turned, adopted a pose before the bedroom mirror and ran through the movement a couple of times, paying careful attention to his left arm. He shook his head, his wife had mentioned the same thing for years, one might almost consider it a private joke, if they were not a Vulcan couple.
Tolkath spent the morning running through the personnel list for the Hawaii's science department. Many were young and relatively inexperienced he noted, a common event now that Starfleet was expanding it's operations once again. He also reviewed the senior staff lists, there was more experience there, undoubtedly the ship and crew would be tested in the weeks to come.
He met his wife for lunch at the appointed time. They had a quiet meal together. The conversation turned to their imminent parting, he to the Hawaii and she to reestablish the Diplomatic Mission on Bre'el. Much of their careers had been spent apart, a condition neither particularly sought, nor avoided, accepting it as a necessary outcome of their chosen paths.
"Do you have anything scheduled for this afternoon?" Lesai asked him
"Nothing in particular. There are the monthly science bulletins to read. And you?"
"No, we have settled on a final three sites for the Mission location. Two in the
capital city, one a little further out, at the base of a small mountain range. That one appears to be a tranquil site and is a favorite amongst the staff." Lesai replied. "We can review then in person after our arrival and then decide."
"It appears your new ship's Commander has managed to secure the assistance of the Bre'ella in the provision of support craft to aid in removing the Gorn from Federation territory. That is a positive outcome, I believe we can expand on with the Mission. "
"Indeed," Tolkath noted, finishing his food. "It is to be hoped they will replace the losses caused by the disruption at the Xavier shipyards."
Lesai finished her own meal and looked at her husband over the table "Since we do not have assigned tasks this afternoon I though we might retire to our cabin..."
Tolkath caught a certain tone and a look in his wife's eyes. "We shall be taking our leave of each other this evening."
"Yes," She nodded, getting up from the table and heading for the door. Tolkath followed.

The Federation Courier dropped out of warp and lined up on a vector for Bre'el IV. Alendora was on the Bridge when her communications officer approached.
"Captain we have permission to enter orbit, ETA approximately twenty three minutes."
"Good," The Bolian nodded "I will alert our passengers."
"There is one other thing, we are picking up what appears to be some sort of local news broadcasts. They concern the activities of the USS Hawaii crew..." The man's face told her it was not good.
"On screen," Alendora ordered. She watched for a moment. The images were grainy and only lasted a few moments but what was happening was clear. As was the commentary that went with it.
"Ms. Lesai, please come to the Bridge," Alendora announced over the comm system.
"She's not going to like this!" She said to her comms officer "Not one bit! Better get me the Hawaii's Captain too."
[Bre'el IV Orbit: USS Hawaii Captain's Ready Room. 1830hours]
"Captain, the Détente is coming into orbit," The Captain's desk comm announced "The Diplomatic Head of Mission is requesting permission to come aboard for an urgent meeting with you."
"Very well, inform them I will meet them at the Reception Hall on Deck 3," Akio replied. "Have our Diplomatic Team also meet us there."
