He Said... She Said... (Backpost)
Posted on 05 May 2019 @ 8:32am by Commander S’chqenr T’Jedf Tolkath (Jan 2389 - TRNSFR After Gorn War) & Lieutenant Commander Iria Taltos & Gunnery Sergeant Kyle Walken
Mission:
Ka Hakaka Maikaʻi - The Good Fight
Location: Holo-Deck 3
Timeline: Three Days after Pause for Paws
[ON]
[Holo Deck 3]
Iria read over the program timeline, she was working in the Wyoming's Jefferies tubes crawlways making repairs to some power flow issues, then after twenty minutes she got the last conduit working properly and had started on her way out, at a brisk pace.
She was near the entrance when Kyle had come in jogging to get to his destination for the Marine Training exercise.
They'd collided about a foot from the hatch opening.
At least from her point of view, she looked at the archway, as Walken and Commander Tolkath came in.
Kyle crosses his arms, "Taltos, I'm sure you have your version of events all set up and ready?" He walks forward and smiles. "You still have time to back out."
He looks around the set Iria had done, "It's almost like I'm back on the Wyoming. If we were not going to finish our argument I would say you did a good job on this Taltos."
"Pffft I am not backing out of getting this settled if I never hear you call me Miss again it will be a good day indeed!" Iria retorted with a wide cheeky grin on her features, this was going to be very interesting no matter the actual outcome.
"Well since you already have your program ready why don't you go first?" The Marine bows slightly to the Engineer. "Commander I believe Taltos will be showing her side of the story first, we will give you time to absorb and think about it before I present mine. Then we will await your judgment as to who was in the right."
Iria gave a small cheeky grin, "You're taking part too Walken, you come in at Chapter Marker 3 on my program." she gave a genuine smile to Tolkath even knowing he would not return it, he had earned the real smile from her, for several reasons, over the last weeks.
"Yeah yeah." Kyle mumbles as he walks towards where he would wait until he was to make his entrance for Iria's side of the story.
Tolkath raised an eyebrow quizzically, waiting to see what would develop.
Iria marched to her spot, and started working like she had that day so many weeks ago, she finished replacing the burnt out power cells and gathered up her tools and headed towards the open jefferies tube hatch, she had left it open as was the way on the Wyoming, a signal to others out on the deck there was someone working and whom would exit and close the hatch upon completion of their work.
Iria started walking and counted her steps as she remembered the time and was a few steps away when Kyle was supposed to be running in for his Marine training run.
On cue, the Marine came running up towards the jefferies tube hatch, he remembered things happening slightly differently but that would have to wait for when it was his turn to present. He was now in front of the hatch and got down to a knee about to climb in.
Iria paused a moment as her combadge chirped, she rolled her eyes, =/\= Taltos here, =/\=
The Wyoming's Engineering Aide retorted back at her, =/\= Thanks for going through section 23-58. I am reading normal power flow again. Take a few hours off, we'll be busy again soon.=/\=
Iria had already planned on taking some time off sit was past her shift but being snarky wasn't necessary this time. =/\=Okay thanks, Taltos out!=/\= she then continued walking briskly towards the hatchway exit,
In five..
four..
three..
two..
one..
... This was the point of collision from what she remembered.
Kyle felt Iria bump his knees as soon as he was about to crawl inside the tube, "Woah?! What are you doing here?" The Marine asks doing his best to remember what he said that day. He backed up once he was standing up. His arms crossed as he watched Iria.
Iria made an indignant sound as she was stopped by his knees, at his words she retorted "Pfffft finished working and on my way out." He had said those very words from what she remembered. "What are you doing in here?"
"Marine drills, we are running drills through the tubes. So I am on my way in, no one said anything about repairs in this area Lieutenant." Walken answered.
"Well it wasn't on the original work detail, it took time to track down the power flow issues starting point. Some of the relays had shorted out and were not being registered properly." She shrugged and started to side step to let him go past, "Not that I knew about any training exercises but still I'm done so all yours now."
Kyle stood up and got out of the way so Taltos could exit, "The boss is changing up the standard routine, doesn't want us to get complicit by doing the same work out day in day out."
Tolkath observed the interaction between the two. From what he could gather so far, the Engineer had been carrying out a repair, that had expended into systems not originally listed on the Maintenance Work Detail. She was also unaware of any planned training in the area she was working in.
While the Marine had been involved in a scheduled training drill and was unaware of the Engineer's presence.
He waited for more information.
Iria headed down the corridor and then stopped, "Okay my end is done. You're turn to show how you think things played out."
"That is mostly what happened, but Lieutenant Taltos left out one minor detail." Kyle walked to the jefferies tube and closes the hatch. "If I had noticed the hatch was open I would have figured someone else was inside it. So Taltos shall we try again." He smiled before leaning in close to Iria. "Do everything the same, but only count down from four that way you have that second to open the hatch."
Iria looked at Walken like he had lost his mind, "There is no way I closed that hatch, you were not there the day one of the transporter technicians smacked the CMO with a hatch thrown open, from that day on it was standard leave the hatches open when you're working." Only way it was closed was if someone else had closed it but she did not remember needing to open the hatch before running into Walken. She shrugged, and turned around, she crawled down closing the hatch and then the rest of the way before she headed to where she had started the repairs.
"I do remember but everyone makes mistakes. Are you saying it isn't possible that someone else didn't know about the repairs and closed that hatch before I got there? Because I remember that hatch closed." Kyle stats as he walks back to take his position again. He did a quick stretch of his arms and legs waiting his cue to come out again.
"If you are requesting a judgement of the course of events, at present there is insufficient information on which to base a decision" Tolkath remarked dryly.
Iria shook her head, "Willing to try his version even if there's unknown variable only fair. If you don't think it's worth the effort I guess we agree to disagree and leave it at that. No one wins or loses."
"Well we don't have to do it again, I mean the only difference in our story is I remember the hatch closed and you don't." Walken looks towards the Commander. "Well, we don't have a recording or anything sir not that we could request it to begin with."
"Then I regret I am unable to provide you with a logical opinion" Tolkath replied "You both have different recollections of the event and neither has proof their recollection is what occurred.
Under the circumstances, regulations would rule in favor of the senior rank, which is Lieutenant Taltos, but this is not to discount your version Sergeant. " Tolkath concluded.
"Well I guess we are back to square one, we can't choose base on senior rank. This is many about the hatch and determining who was at fault which without a visual record I'm not sure we will ever solve this." Walken mumbled.
Iria hmmmed a moment and shook her head, "Unless there's still a back up of the Wyoming's security logs? I mean I know the ship's computer keeps records but do those records get sent to the fleet even after the ship is destroyed?" She wasn't sure if anyone the Wyoming's records survived or not she didn't know the procedure on backup of data.
"It is standard practice to send a back up of data on a regular schedule, or prior to the ship entering a hazardous area of space" Tolkath replied "A message buoy can also be deployed, but under the abrupt circumstances of the ship's destruction I do not believe either would have been occurred"
"It seems our tiny argument will remain where it has been." Walken scratched his head. "Thanks for your time Commander, even if they did get a buoy off I don't think right now is an appropriate to request that data all things considered."
"Agreed" Tolkath noded and headed for the exit
Walken watched the Commander leave before he looked towards Taltos, "I should get going too, have some drills to run my team through, catch up with you later."
"Ok" Taltos grinned "Just so long as you remember I was right!" She gave him a cheeky wink.
