Timeline: T+5. 0800hrs

[Captain’ Ready room]

Five days after taking control of the Canterra system a supply vessel joined the Battlegroup, the ship carried additional equipment, spares, supplies and personnel, some replacements for combat losses and others who had not arrived at Xavier in time before the Hawaii departed.

The ships arrival had resulted in a reshuffling of personnel to cover combat losses. Lieutenant Deeli Kosu had been temporarily assigned to the USS Algonquin after their Engineering team had suffered a number of casualties when a plasma manifold exploded.

Lieutenant Taltos would be Acting Chief Engineer in her absence.

Of the newly arrived crew one of these was the Chief of Security, Lieutenant T’Mar.

Tolkath and Tachibana were in the Captain’s Ready room when she reported aboard.

T'Mar went of the supply vessel and was now walking the hallways. As she arrived she stopped at the door of the captain's ready room. On her way she met up with crew of the ship. Some greeted her. She had just nodded back politely. When she got to the door she reached out and pressed the chime.

"Enter!" Akio commanded.

Tolkath greeted the new Vulcan, hand raised, fingers parted, offering the traditional “Your service honors us. Peace and long life.”

Akio was still getting used to seeing Tolkath in red and nodded to the newly arrived Vulcan in yellow.

T'Mar raised her hand looking straight at him before she returned the greeting. "Captain, commander," She said. "Lieutenant T'Mar, I am to be your new tactical officer. It is an honor being here."

"It is great to have you aboard. We are appreciative of your experience. We've had a bit of a... junior department thus far," Akio tried to be fair, yet honest to the new Department Head. "They've done well in combat though."

“With regards to the Security department, your arrival enables us to carry out some personnel reassignments." Tolkath began. “Lieutenant Junior Grade Harry Stevens has been Acting Chief.

"He is young and inexperienced, this being his first post after graduating Starfleet Academy.

"Unfortunately, his recent performance has not been… entirely satisfactory.” He said with Vulcan understatement.

“It is our understanding that he showed some poor decision making and reckless actions during combat with the Gorn, that could have easily resulted in his own death and that of others with him.

"He is not without merit, but needs a seasoned mentor and leader to guide him, so that he can learn and improve his performance.

"One area where he has shown some aptitude is in the use of canine Working Dogs. At this time it would be appropriate to assign him as section leader for the Security canines. That reassignment can take place now that you are in post.

T'Mar nodded and said, "I see I have come right in time then. I will have a fresh wind go through the department then. This Lieutenant Junior Grade Stevens, I will keep an eye on him. I will train him. With my marine back ground I am sometimes referred to as strict and controlled. But I think the Security department would benefit from that as well in my opinion. We're working with weapons and I want my officers to be focused on the job."

“With your permission Captain, we could effect that reassignment now,” Tolkath look to Tachibana.

"For once, I am already ahead of you, Commander," Akio shot a grin.

Tolkath raised an eyebrow "Indeed you are sir"


[Unspecified Deck]

As Harry continued to walk the corridor with Lady Sif walking beside him and having the luxury of the chief Security office, now he was on the daily roster for patrolling a section of the ship, He thought to himself oO what Have I done to deserve this? Oo as he made sure that his Side arm was fully charged and his secondary one was also charged and in its holster strapped around his left ankle as he had noticed some of the other Security officers talking about how he had fallen from grace and that he was now one of them.

He continued, in deep thought oO I wonder what T'Lara makes of this and does she want to see me again? Oo as he looked down at Sif, He said to her, "Your not going to leave me are you Sif?" as she looked up at him and she knew that this had made him sad and that she had to cheer him up as she gave a bark back.

He knew that after this shift, he was going to head towards the mess hall for some alone time, although he knew that T'Lara would ask where he had been, just then his combadge chirped and harry answered it, =/\= Stevens here , Go ahead=/\=

=/\=Mr. Stevens, please report to my ready room=/\= Came the Captain's vocie.


[Corridor]

As Harry and Sif had not long started their patrol when his combadge chirped and tapped it, upon hearing the Captain's voice Harry replied =/\= I'm on my way Sir,=/\= as he wondered what this was all about as he looked down at Sif to see how she had stopped when the call had come in from the Hawaii's Commanding Officer.

He said to Sif," Let's go and see what all this is about shall we girl," as they started to walk once more to find the nearest turbolift and head to the Captain's ready room, as they continued on walking , Harry had this funny feeling that this was not going to be good news. as they rounded a corner and found a turbo-lift, Harry and Sif entered the lift as Harry said," Bridge,"

Within a few minutes, Harry and Sif found themselves deposited onto the bridge of the star-ship as he walked over to the Security station and checked in with the officer on watch before heading over to the ready room. as he stood outside and straightened his jacket, he pressed the door chime and waited.


[Captain’ Ready room]

Once Stevens had arrived Tolkath introduced T’Mar and informed him of his new duties.

"Welcome T'Mar," replied Harry as he gave her the formal salute that T'Lara had given him, as Sif sat down beside him as the Captain spoke, Harry now was to learn his fate, and that fate Harry had that bad feeling once more.

”With immediate effect Lieutenant, you will be assigned as Division Officer for the Security Working Dogs section, in light of Lieutenant T'Mar's assignment to our ship."

oO Oh crap, not another demotion, Oo as he looked back at the Captain and then he looked over at Tolkath and then the New chief, although now he was a section chief, Harry knew that he had to prove himself all over again and that now he started to feel slightly upset, as the Captain continued speaking.

"This is an opportunity for you to gain experience in managing an appropriately sized unit, to learn leadership and decision making skills and, with the guidance of Lieutenant T'Mar, to continue to be an asset to this ships’ Security Department.”

"Yes Sir," replied Harry as he knew that he was going to need a stiff drink to get over this with and what with T'Lara acting weird didn't help matters, but for now He had to take this on the chin, but he was still not happy about it one bit.

He asked, "Sirs, May I ask what Have I done wrong to warrant this demotion?"

T'Mar was just observing and kept quiet the whole time. Finally she spoke, as it wasn't the first time she had to deal with young inexperienced officers and soldiers. All of them always asked why, even though they knew the answer already, they seem to just like to hear it from their superiors.

"Lieutenant," she said, "Why see it as a demotion? Why not see it as an opportunity? Command obviously feels you could benefit from a position with less responsibility. There is no shame in that. And it wouldn't necessarily mean you have done something wrong."

Tolkath nodded. There as little to be gained by reciting the man's faults, most of which were simply the result of his immaturity and inexperience. He wondered if Steven's assignment to the Hawaii had been part of Starfleet's plan to deliberately sacrifice the ship to the Gorn?

"As Lieutenant T'Mar has stated" Tolkath added "View this as an opportunity to begin your career anew. In a position that best suits your current abilities and the needs of the ship."

"Harry, often times in Starfleet, you may find yourself moved around depending on rank and seniority. Our requests for personnel are being filled, slowly I admit. Since T'Mar is more senior to you, it wouldn't make sense to have her report to you and it certainly would not make sense to assign her to another department," Akio explained.

"Then Sir's that means I have only four handlers excluding myself with six other Dogs without a handler," replied Harry looking back at the officers in the room, He continued, " I would like to request new officers for my section," as he knew that he had lost good officers in the past.

"That will not be possible at this time" Tolkath explained "Due to ongoing combat operations Tactical and standard Security functions have priority for personnel.

"You can discuss these and other matters with Lieutenant T'Mar later Mister Stevens. You may return to your duties. Dismissed."

"Aye Sir," replied Harry as he gave T'Mar a glare as he turned and tapped the side of his leg to call Sif to come, as he knew that once more he had been shafted, He thought oO does Tolkath not trust me or something Oo as he walked over to the door and now he was going to head to the mess hall for a drink as he exited the captain's ready room.

Once Stevens had left Tolkath turned to TMar. "As you can see, he does not think of the overall requirements of the Security Department or of the ship, just his own personal interests. This is another area you will need to have him work on..."

T'Mar nodded. "I am not going to lie, sir, this may not be easy. He may see me as the one that took his position. He will not make my job easy. But I have faced tougher challenges than him." She turned to her two superiors again. "Is there anything else I need to be informed off before I am going to tend for my duties, sirs?"

"No, managing Mister Stevens will not be easy." Tolkath agreed. "Even for a Human he has poor emotional control, lacks focus and mental discipline. It is to be hoped you may be able to instill some in him..."

"None at this time, T'Mar. I think you have a good lay of the department," Akio smiled briefly and nodded.

"There is, however, another matter" Tolkath explained "Concerning an event that took place on Canterra. A highly classified event, that will require a though investigation."

He turned to Tachibana "With your permission Sir, l will summon the other personnel."

"Granted," Akio replied curtly.
