Tolkath arrived to find T'Lara and Ericksson waiting for him. "Doctor, Lieutenant" He greeted them. "I understand we have some results from your research into the Gorn implants?"

"The devices are... interesting." Marcus began. "Obviously a traditional implant supports or replaces existing biological functions, but that's not the case with these things. Our first thought was they might be some kind of restraint, but in order to make that effective, you'd have to perform microsurgery. Basically, the concept is extremely inefficient compared to traditional restraints. So, the question is, what do they actually do? It's really not all that straightforward."

The young science officer brought up a diagram on the nearest screen. It showed a humanoid central nervous system. "There's a little variation in patients due to their particular biologies, but the devices are all connected to the CNS in the same way." The display showed the interface points that the implants were connected to. "Some of the prisoners have multiple devices but they're all hooked up very similarly. It looks to me like they're designed to monitor and even stimulate pain receptors and the autonomic nervous system. It's the autonomic that's the big problem here."

T'Lara nodded. "I agree. It looked to me at first the devices control the victims body. Which would be consistent with the inflicting of pain. Also the function of it to be some kind of monitor, seems to confirm that hypothesis. I am however concerned the implants were designed to control the victim, but not keep them alive. I am deeply concerned." She fell silent and shook her head.

She then pointed to the display. "Reading the autopsy reports my colleagues made, prior to my arrival, I found the devices not only attached to their nervous system, but also, in some cases to their blood streams. Which would mean the devices would inject certain bio chemicals in to their blood stream."

Tolkath's eyebrow raised, what he was hearing sounded barbaric. "It sounds as though they are attempting to turn Humanoids into some kind of biological-automaton. A living being whom they can control by use of these implants.

Are the Gorn attempting to create their own Cy-Borg Drones?" He asked.

Marcus made a noncommittal little noise. "Cyborg drones take a lot of resources to create, and even more for upkeep. As best as we can tell, a huge amount of he architecture of a Borg cube is just there to keep the drones going. Practically speaking, it's hard to imagine the Gorn want to do that on any scale. Now this is just speculation at this point, but it looks to me more like they want to create sleeper agents, someone they can switch on at the right moment and get 'em to carry out a particular task. If they can work out the right combination of implants and make them hard enough to detect, I think that's viable. If I'm right, this is fairly early stage experimentation, but it's a feasible technology."

"Yet these implants are of a much smaller scale than those used by the Borg, and do not appear to include nanotechnological enhancement of the host. There does not, therefore, seem to be any need for regenerative processes" Tolkath observed.

"From the current size and placement, many protrude through the skin, it would be illogical to expect them to pass unnoticed. Since they could have started from a smaller size initially, even with experimental designs, it is more likely that the Gorn do not intend them to be covert.

Also the devices are not, from we can tell, integrated into the host's brain, just the nervous and circulatory systems, which would suggest they are more likely designed for control of the actions of a conscious host than of one who is being guided without their knowledge.

What have those who had these implants reported of their experiences Doctor?" He asked TLara who had dealt with them as patients.

"The physiological and psychological effects are tremendous," T'Lara replied. "The patients have no control over their motor functions and fighting the control proved extremely painful and sometimes even fatal. Also from autopsy reports and examinations on life patients, I can conclude that humans are more susceptible, and sometimes the implants are not compatible. Which means implants could be fatal to some humans. While in other humanoids such as Betazoids it seems to be ineffective at all. I am not sure how it would be for hybrids such as myself."
I
Tolkath nodded "Thank you, Doctor. I have no doubt we will encounter more of these devices as we engage further with the Gorn, particularly on the federation planets they have seized.

Please continue your research. Doctor focus in methods of removal. Lieutenant examine possible methods of disrupting the devices circuitry or possibly incapacitating the person it us attached to, non lethal is obviously preferred, but may not be feasible. " He was considering the possibility that those implanted could be made to fight or attack Starfleet personnel"

After a short discussion the meeting concluded.
