Akio reported early for his shift. Today was the big day. Either everything would work out, or everything would turn into a disaster.
No battle plan survives first contact were the words of one of Akio's former COs. He learned very well by Captain Jost.
Tolkath looked over as the Captain stepped on to the Bridge and nodded. he had been there for several hours working on a plan to link the various sensors of the Battle Group ships together. It was coming together.
Already on the bridge, Deeli tried her best to focus on her work. But for some reason, she kept looking at Akio and feeling distracted. She did not even notice other people entering the bridge. He was the only thing she was having a notice for "Is my...presence required on the bridge Captain? I am an engineer and I belong there..." She did not want to give him the impression that she was avoiding him. But that kiss, that kiss was still in her mind that made her blush.
Akio glanced at Kosu and he was no doctor, yet she seemed to be uncomfortable either by the bridge... or him?
"Lieutenant, the Engineering Terminal must be staffed. For such an important battle, your expertise is most welcome here," Akio explained.
Signing at that answer, did he wanted her there for her experience or just having her around? Deeli could not put a finger on it and slightly nodded to him "My assistant got the same expertise as I do, maybe I am yet again required to go off ship and help the marines in their assault?" She did not want to be off world, but Deeli was checking her worth in this.
"NO!" Akio said, louder than he intended before returning to his usual tone. "That will not be necessary, Lieutenant. We need you to keep the Hawaii in one piece."
A bit shocked at the reaction she blinks a few times "I...guess I will stay on the bridge?" Deeli looked a bit confused at him and wondering what was going on in his head. Did he want her to stay close to him after all?
Juan arrived a moment later, uniform freshly pressed, not a hair out of place, only his red eyes suggested that he hadn't been able to sleep last night. "Mr Tolkath, Captain," he greeted smoothly, coming to stand next to the CO.
"Sirs." Cassidy only finished tightening his collar as he emerged through the turbolift doors, hair rumpled. But his eyes were bright and alert, his gait brisk as he headed to the helm to relieve the officer at the controls. A PADD was stowed in a pocket before he sat; he'd been burning the star charts into his skull for days. But he wanted to be able to read sensors at the slightest glance, and know every light second of their environs for what came ahead.
Harry stood at the Tactical station ready for anything that might come their way, He said "Captain, weapons and shields are ready and waiting," giving his report, as Lady Sif had taken a spot next to the Captain as Harry knew that Sif had taken to being there as protection for the Captain.
The turbolift doors parted and Jinn stepped out onto the bridge. This wasn't his domain, but any discomfort or fish out of water feeling was quickly dispelled, as he strode quickly and with purpose out onto the bridge.
He'd received the long range scans a short while prior, and he and Cortez had analyzed what was received, but they didn't have a lot to go on, being so far out still. He intended to request more information as it became available, hoping for some imagery of the area before the battle group arrived.
He walked over and stood to the other side of the CO as the XO, not having a station on the bridge of his own.
"Sirs," he said in way of acknowledgement as he approached.
"Mr. Tevran," Akio greeted Jinn. "You can take the Mission Ops terminal, if you need LCARS access."
"Aye, sir," Jinn replied, making his way to the Mission Ops terminal. "Sir, I'd like to request any higher magnification imagery we can get from the scans of enemy emplacements and ships. We have a rough idea of what's out there, but as we get closer, if anything new can be patched to me, it'd be much appreciated."
"Patience Mister Tevran" Tolkath said without looking up from the Science panel "Estimated time to arrival at Canterra III is Sixteen Hours, Forty Seven minutes and Twenty One seconds. I do not expect reliable imagery of surface structures for approximately nine hours, fifteen minutes..."
"Thank you, Commander, I realize that," Jinn replied, smiling. "I was referring, though, to imagery on any orbital emplacements or the ships in the area, since assumedly we'd have those before the imagery from the surface."
"One would presume so," Tolkath replied and continued working on the battle group sensor link he was establishing.
Akio monitored the flurry of activity and was impressed that the crew was already kicking it into high gear.
Jenny made her way up to the bridge as well, she needed fresh information, and wanted to be able to discuss what role her and her flyers could play in the upcoming operation.
Nila seemed to be the last of the bridge crew to have arrived, she took her position next to the CONN and Lieutenant Cassidy. She didn't bother talking to anyone instead going over all sensor data they had picked up in the past few hours.
As the rest of the command team reported, Tachibana gathered Tolkath and Zamora.
"Due to the complexity of this operation, as discussed, XO, you will be in CIC. Mr. Tolkath, if you are comfortable handling the Science station in addition to whatever duties of first officer on the bridge, I think we may fare better with your eyes on the sensors," Akio explained.
Tolkath nodded "I have established an overlapping joint forward sensor sweep Captain." He pointed to a display screen "Utilizing and linking the different ship sensors throughout the group we have a broad cone of overlapping sensor data projecting ahead and around the Battlegroup.
The Adriatic has her sensors covering our rear and we are sharing all data across all ships. The Compass Island is copying data but not linked in and is thus ready to investigate any contacts as required, without degrading the Group's sensor link " Tolkath concluded.
"Your forethought is invaluable Mr. Tolkath," Juan complimented. "Let us hope we will be ready for anything this time."
"Agreed," Akio said as he glanced at Jenny. "Mr. Zamora, it will be very important to coordinate both the fighter aspect as there will be over a dozen fighters engaged along with the landing parties. For all intents and purposes, you are our proverbial 'space boss.'"
"Of course sir, is there anything else you wanted my input on, or shall I head down and start my preparations now?" Juan asked, closing his hands into fists at his sides to cover his suddenly sweaty palms.
"That is all, Mr. Zamora. You will do fine," Akio put his hand on the Commander's shoulder to wish him luck.
"Thank you sir," Juan replied, turning to go. "Ms. Lassonde, we can discuss the role of your flight down in the CIC." He said as he began to leave.
"All right," Jenny responded. What had she ridden all the way up here for, if she was just going back down to the CIC?
[Approximately 30 minutes later...]
Tolkath was monitoring the linked sensor scans coming inform the Battlegroup ships, when his panel began to light up, seconds later the CIC confirmed the data.
"Captain, I have multiple contacts bearing 027 and closing" he announced.
