Mission:
Ka Hakaka Maikaʻi - The Good Fight
Location: Holodeck
Timeline: 21 Jan, 2389
[Holodeck]
Arthur smiled as he affixed the final touches to both Dk'tagh knives sitting on his desk: the paddle and fan formation from the seal of the state of Hawaii back when it was a country. As soon as he was sure the crests would not fall off, he carefully packed both into boxes before he headed to a holodeck.
As he arrived, he spoke, "Computer, load program Jones-Sigma-4." And a holographic representation of the Hawaii's bridge appeared. "Please send a request to Captain Tachibana and Commander Zamora to come here."
[XO's Office]
Juan perked his ears at the summons and looked back to the PADD in his hands, more reports on the progress of repairs. He decided a change of scenery would do him good and he paused only to make sure nothing was out of place in his appearance before moving out the door.
[Holodeck]
Juan walked through the door and was greeted by a recreation of the bridge, now grown somewhat familiar. "What needs my attention Mr. Ruk?" he asked.
"I'll explain as soon as Captain Tachibana arrives." Arthur said, placing both boxes on his vacant seat at the holographic Ops. There were holographic representations of everyone but the three men who would be present.
Akio entered the holodeck, unsure what was going on when he received the request from the Chief of Operations.
"Is everything alright, Mr. Ruk?" Akio asked, seeing the XO.
"Yes sir, everything's fine." Arthur said, picking up both boxes and approaching both men, handing each of them one. "Seeing as we've recently seen ourselves in a boarded situation and we were lucky enough they weren't on the bridge. But, as my father always said, our luck will run out."
"My father was not superstitious and had a similar saying: make your own destiny," Akio said, nodding while taking the box.
"While we do have security, if it comes down to it, they might not be available, and that's the reason for the gifts. Custom Dk' Tagh knives made by me."
"I did not know you were a weaponsmith," Akio noted. "I am an avid sword fighter myself, mostly with katana, yet this will make a fine piece for my collection. Thank you, Mr. Ruk," Akio bowed slightly.
"I'm honored, doubly so since you say you made it yourself, thank you." Juan reached out and took his box with practiced smoothness.
"Not by trade, however my mother, Uyanna is a weaponsmith on Qo'noS." Arthur explained, "She taught me a few things about making knives as a child, and I've been known to make Dk' taghs with a high level of mastery."
"Now as for why I've done this in the holodeck, is I want to show you exactly how useful these are in a combat situation."
Akio raised an eyebrow and looked at Zamora.
"I'm sure that's not really necessary Mr. Ruk." Juan began, speaking quickly. "The captain has already stated he practices close-quarters combat, and I, I can assure you, do not." He kept his voice neutral as he spoke, but his eyes were wide, and there were a few drops of sweat breaking out on his forehead.
"And if security gets overwhelmed? Its a highly unlikely situation on a Sovereign, but in light of our recent developments, could it not be possible?"
Akio enjoyed a challenge. "It is alright, Mr. Zamora. Mr. Ruk is challenging us to a fight." Akio grabbed one of the weapons in a Chudan No Kame stance.
Juan set the case down on the XO's seat and hesitantly took up the Dk' tagh, holding it like a kitchen knife. He tried to breathe, telling himself to just think of what was about to happen as a workout, nothing special, just some exercise.
Arthur smiled, moving over to his station, but remained standing. "Computer. Begin program." Almost as soon as the program began, the ship rocked violently. "We've got boarders!" Holo-Stevens at Tactical said, moments before several Holo-Gorn appeared on the bridge.
"Computer. Pause!" Arthur said, "Safeties are on, so don't worry about major injury." He said, glancing at Zamora. "Resume program." The program resumed with the Gorn rushing Akio and Zamora. And while Arthur pulled his own knife and circled around to be in easy striking distance of the ones covering Juan, he didn't quite move in, yet.
Akio lunged with a jab at one of the gorn, slicing its belly and carrying it in a sweeping motion to the left that caught another gorn in the neck. Akio rotated the blade into a downward stabbing motion and bore down on the second gorn, piercing his head.
Juan held his blade out, attempting to keep the Gorn at as much of a distance as possible, circling around so that his back was to the Captain. He slashed at the hands of the first trooper to approach him, following an instant later with a sharp, jabbing kick to the alien's legs.
The first Gorn went down on his front, another one stepping up from either side, the one closest to Arthur getting a knife in its back, leaving a singular Gorn going after Juan
Juan Stepped forward, striking out with the knife in a lunging thrust aimed at the advancing Gorn.
"Computer. End program." Arthur said calmly. After the program ended, he sighed, "I'd have let it continue, but I've seen what I wanted to know." He make no implications with his tone.
"I'm sure you have." Juan commented, using a purple handkerchief to dab the sweat from his forehead.
Akio was a bit perplexed by the short simulation. He expected a fight. He bowed to Ruk.
"Thank you for the gifts, Mr. Ruk," Akio said.
"Of course, Captain." Arthur said, bowing back.
