Big Irons

Posted on 29 Aug 2018 @ 12:29pm by Lieutenant Junior Grade Geneviève "Jenny" Lassonde (Dec-Jan 2389 - TRNSFR After Gorn War) & Ensign Bryan "Cowboy" Davies (Jan 2389 - WIA-TRNSFR to XFY Medical)

Mission: Ka Hakaka Maikaʻi - The Good Fight
Location: XFY, Near Space
Timeline: 0915, 17 Jan 2389

Jenny sped through space, the Knights arrayed on her wings, as the collection of fighters moved along one of the clear transit routes. Behind them the motherships were stirring, pulling away from the station and coming about to face the intruder.

=/\="Caesar to flight, we're going to screen the ships as they exit the cloud. Assume formation Aegis-Alpha-One."=/\= Leo announced, pulling a strategy out of the standard book of maneuvers.

"Copy Caesar" Jenny acknowledged. "Form up Knights, and be careful out there, we're going to be exposed to long range fire."

"Copy that Boss." He turned and glanced behind them. The whales had begun to turn to the coming fight. He hated having to steer one of those tubs. Fat and slow. He loved the nimble quickness of the fighters.....hell even the shuttles.

Turning back around he glanced at his HUD and started to see what it was they were going to meet at the edge of sensor range.

"Holy crap." He uttered then winced when he realized his comm was still open.

"Stay frosty Knights, you're going to need to be quick at the controls. It looks like we're going on the offensive." Jenny instructed, the pattern Caesar had chosen would set them up for an attack run. It didn't sit well with her as she examined the magnification of the intruder on her main screen. That was definitely the ship she had seen at Canterra. Looking as the Gorn ship rushed to meet them she could understand having a moment of trepidation.

Attacking a full size ship in a fighter was dangerous at the best of times, and this one was as mean as they come. It had already finished off the Wyoming, and now it was here to finish the job. Caesar had a point though, if he wasn't just being a hotheaded glory hound that was. Better to come screaming down on them, with the chance to maneuver, and maybe to inflict some damage of their own, than to run the risk of looking on helplessly as they were picked off one by one with long range phaser blasts.

"Let's teach these scaly bastards a lesson they can't forget!" She called out to the flight.

"Damn right." Bryan gripped his flight yoke tighter and activated his primary weapons. He hit the throttle and his fighter screamed forward with the rest of his wing. The sif generators barely keeping up with the sudden acceleration.

His fighter shook as a phaser blast sizzled mere meters away from his craft and impacted one of the others behind him. He and the rest of his wing banked hard and increased the angle of attack.

"Hold steady Knights." He watched as his targeting reticle flashed twice then turned red.

"Try a little of this!" He fired his weapons and watched as the combined fire of the squadrons impacted the shields of the capital ship in front of them. He banked hard and skimmed the surface of the enemy ship firing at shield emiter points all along its hull as he went. The fighters engines screaming at him as they quickly approached redline. If they slowed now they would be easy pickings.

"Computer bring up shield grid weak points and power distribution junctions!" His HUD filled with new potential targets he pressed the attack with the rest of the Knights.

"Boss I'm going to see if her belly has any weak spots!" He twitched his yoke and his fighter went spinning up over and around the enemy ship towards her underside. One or two phaser shots that if they fully connect would have finished him . They glanced off the edge of his shields.

=/\="They've hit Stalker!"=/\=

=/\="...point defense cluster on the aft hull extension."=/\=

=/\="Reinforcement fighters inbound from XFY."=/\=

=/\="They still have some!?"=/\=

Jenny's cockpit was filled with chatter, Cowboys announcement he was going beneath was one more voice adding to the chaos. "Eyes open Cowboy! We want you back when you're done." She alerted him. She skimmed over the skin of the cruiser, hugging close to the hull plating as she and two redeemers closed in on a ball turret. They let loose with their energy weapons and flew through the resultant explosion.

=/\="Surface damage only Knight One, weapon is still operational."=/\= Somebody reported.

"Damn!" Jenny cursed, this ship was tough.

Bryan's fighter rocked hard as the enemy ships weapons began getting closer. His ship was straining so close to the enemy shields his vision was filled with crackling energy as both shields impacted slightly.

"Pull er back Hoss." He muttered to himself as he eased his ship slightly away. He needed to stay close so the weapons had a harder time targeting him. His computer barked out in protest. "Approaching critical on engine output. Recommend throttle down."

"Shut up!" He bellowed as the power junction he wanted rapidly grew larger in his HUD. He flipped the trigger guard up and reached to his side and activated the starboard torpedo pod.

"Almost.....almost." He whispered as he concentrated. A warning klaxon sounded loud in his ear as the computer warned of an incoming projectile.

Bryan ignored it as he fired. The micro torps screamed from the pod towards the power junction. He activated his thrusters and tried to dip below what looked like a piece of some kind of ship heading right towards him.

It impacted him mid ship and his fighter went spinning off into the darkness.
His ship systems blinking on and off venting something into space he locked eyes on the enemy ship as the weapons fire began to grow slightly erratic. He had targeted a power junction supplying the ships weapons targeting sensors....

He smiled as he tumbled out of control and began flipping switches and inputting commands trying to get control back. His fighter growing dark and
out of sight to the battle.

Jenny saw a light blink out on her control panel, the section tracking the status of her flight. "Cowboy!? Tell me you're alright!" She called out, even as the point defense turrets slackened their rate of fire around her. A round of elated cries burst over the comms as the Redeemers took the opportunity to strike and a row of explosions bloomed along the cruiser's hull. "Come on Cowboy answer me, please." She hailed again.

=/\="Break off the attack and regroup, the enemy is heading into the field."=/\= Caesar commanded.

Jenny pulled off and looped back around, from further out she could she the deflectors sparking as the cruiser plowed through the debris, flaring up into a wave of fire as it dived further. The remaining fighters were forming up behind the screen o0f obstacles as they formulated their next move.
